Xanax And Antihistamines
After just one night of useing xanax, (alprazolam)
antihistamines or melatonin to induce sleep, I am awake the entire
night! never used to have this reaction. Why?
Not the right combo: Each of these meds can help sleep or agitate. Combining them all on the first night? Melatonin is mostly benign but when used with vitamin b6 (think 5 hour energy) agitation can result. Some brands still include b6. Antihistamines are known to produce agitation in susceptible people. They learn who they are. Xanax (alprazolam) has a rapid onset but the rapid stop can agitate and cause reuse (think addiction). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

just one night, i can't sleep at all
the following night. Why?
I took an antihistamine & forgot I did. (15 min ago) came back in room & took a Xanax bc I've had anxiety all day. Can you mix those? Should I go to t
Go to.....?: You should not mix Xanax with sedating antihistamines like diphenhydramine (Benadryl) since taking them together increases the sedative effect. If your doctor OK's it, you could use a less sedating antihistamine such as loratadine (Claritin) or fexofenadine (Allegra) with Xanax. As with any habit-forming drug, you should use Xanax sparingly at the lowest effective dose. Dr. Anne ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Benzos and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) : First i need to question doses of xanax and valium and why you are taking 2 different benzodiazepines. Most people do not realize xanax is about 10x more potent than valium. So i don't see 25mg of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) as the primary issue. Do u have 2 different practitioners rx benzos? If so have only 1 captain running your ship & rxing meds. Discuss this with your rxing practitioner. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I just took 2 tablets of 25mg benadryl (diphenhydramine) at 10 45pm. Is it okay if i take 0.25mg Xanax right now? It's 11 20pm
Not life threatening: Both of these medications are sedating & can make you groggy so operating a car of other machinery should be delayed. But it is not life threatening if you took that Xanax tonite & he only other medication on board was the Benadryl (diphenhydramine) . You should have a doctor who prescribed the medication who you can speak with . If you want to have a virtual psychiatric consultation I am available thru Health Tap ...Read more
