I have had x-rays on my right foot because my metatarsals are on top of each other but my podiatrist says she thinks I have a fracture but an orthoped?

What does that mean?: Your metatarsals are on top of each other? An xray should be able to rule out a fractured metatarsal. Especially, if combined with a clinical exam. ...Read more

It can be difficult: Without an x-ray, you may not be able to diagnose a fracture. Some fractures are obvious without an x-ray but some are not. Dislocations often times are easier to diagnose without an x-ray but you won't necessarily be able to diagnose a toe dislocation without an x-ray. Further studies: If the pain is getting worse, it would probably be wise to consider further studies. An xray is easy to take, and will pick up many fractures, but both an MRI and a ct scan are much more sensitive and can pick up things that an xray might "miss". ...Read more

Foot'n mouth disease: Got the foot part but need more info! (that's the 'mouth' part), like what part of the foot? stub it?twist it?Drop a bowling ball on it?stick it in a wood chopper? Come on!!! Anyway, in general, if the initial x-ray is ok, then ok.But if it still hurts in that spot, you may need a second about two or so weeks after the first one to see if something shows up. How is x ray Abn.?: An "abnormal" x ray could be anything from just reporting the swelling which is already known to a bone, joint or soft tissue problem which may or may not be related to the dorsal swelling.
