I got hairline fracture in 5th metacarpal bone in hand 15days back im using splint, how much time i would continue splint?
Fracture: Hairline fracture implies a mild break in the bone without displacement or angulation. While this still hurts the pain is generally not as bad as if there is a more serious injury such as a displaced or crooked fracture. Regardless the pain is generally localized with regional focal tenderness. There's often some degree of pain with range of motion of the wrist as well. ...Read more
Repeat Xray or MRI: Initial xray may not show, but should in about 2 wks or so. An MRI is a much better test for for small fracture. A bone scan can also show this. If you did not have trauma, fracture is not likely. Use of antiinflammatory med such as aleve/motrin for pain, and a wrist splint may help quite a bit. Rest, but should have some gentle range of motion to avoid stiffness. Consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more

CT,MR or bone scan:
Ct is reat for bone detalail & u can reformat into 2-d, also good to show healing. An mr will show edema and bleeding in the area of even a hairline fracrure, d not great for bone detail or 4 showing healing. Bone scan is very sensative for bone activity in the area of a suspected fx but is not specific $ fracture, only activity : infection, tumor etc

I think I've got a hairline fracture in my wrist. It's the side of the pinky it got hit really hard against a metal pole. Bruising and swelling hurts ?
generally indicates bone damage which can vary froma bone bruise to a non-displaced Fracture!
Get an X ray! ( if only to determine how long you can expect the pain to last)
Apply ICE during first 24-36 hours then heat
Hope this is helpful
