What liquid promotes wound healing? What is the right documentation of wound and dressing site?

Few liquids actually: Promote wound healing. But there are some advantages to using a neosporin type cream. Also one can use certain silvadene (silver sulfadiazine) gels and seaweed extracts, but those are typically only obtained by prescription. Do not put hydrogen peroxide on a healing wound! only use it to initially clean a wound. It kills the tissue that was placed down to heal it. Seek treatment : The human body when injured promptly sets upon the task of attempting to heal itself. Tomorrow will be the end of the 1st full week of my vac therapy. Since starting the vac I've been freezing and run down. Is this common?

Wound Vac? Other?: Use HealthTap Prime to discuss, as we're limited in the number of characters in this forum. I don't understand what you mean by "vac therapy". Are you referring to a wound vac (Negative Pressure Wound Therapy)? NPWT shouldn't cause chills or fatigue; those symptoms are indicative of an infection which may be from a wound or some other part of your body. To what part of the body is NPWT applied? ...Read more

I have a wound vac from an infection and now when my wife change's it she says it smells like almonds. Should i worry afbout smell?

Meaningless finding: Wound odor is meaningless. If you remember that part of healing is inflammations which includes (swelling). This is caused by fluid from the blood vessels bringing healing blood to the wound. The blood fluid leaks out and as it does, it loses blood supply which means it will putrefy (rot). That causes odor. Since it is away from the wound, other than the smell, it means nothing. No tx needed. ...Read more

If sternal debridement is performed on the sternum do they have to leave it open and do you have to wear a wound vac?

Many options: If the sternum was debrided due to infection, then yes, it has to be left open to heal from the bottom up. Using suction therapy (vac is just one brand) is an excellent way to help large/deep open wounds heal but the infection must be treated first by removing the infected, non-healing tissue and then antibiotics directed specifically at the bacteria that caused the problems. Wound consult helps. ...Read more
