Would vomiting help clear liquor from system?

Would vomiting help clear liquor from system?

Why hurt yourself?: Alcohol (etoh) empties rapidly from the stomach. Alcohol dehydrogenase in the stomach lining contributes to etoh metabolism. Etoh can not be stored by the body & obligatory oxidation takes place predominantly in the liver. 1 gram etoh gives 7 empty calories that provide only energy with no nutritional value. Poor diet (protein-calorie, choline, folate (folic acid) deficiency) contributes to liver toxicity. ...Read more

Probably a dumb question, but I take two doses of ODT Zofran (ondansetron) daily due to disease and nausea. Does this help protect me from vomiting from stomach flu?

Probably a dumb question, but I take two doses of ODT Zofran (ondansetron) daily due to disease and nausea. Does this help protect me from vomiting from stomach flu?

Not Dumb! It helps.: Zofran (ondansetron) helps with nausea and vomiting from many causes. So if you are taking it for chronic nausea, it will also affect the nausea from an acute gastroenteritis (stomach bug). It's a good question! Zofran (ondansetron) treats symptoms: nausea and vomiting, not the cause of them. These symptoms can have many causes, which Zofran (ondansetron) does not correct. ...Read more

What is best to drink, water or sports drinks with electrolytes for diarrhea? Having GI issues being weaned off morphine and on day 3 of 0 morphine

Sports: drinks are probably preferred because they will help you replace electrolytes lost due to diarrhea. This assumes that you have proper renal (kidney) function. Hope this is helpful! Dr Z ...Read more

Could either of these have caused fever and chills? 1:activated charcoal itself. 2:trying to hold in vomit for 1hr after it made me want to vomit.

1) No 2) Maybe: If you forced yourself to retain vomit, even as it occurred, you run the risk of aspirating some of the material down your throat, with the potential to cause aspiration pneumonia (a chemical burn to your lungs). Go get checked please in light of your fever. ...Read more

How long does the alcohol from four vodka drinks last in your system before you can medicate the throat pain from strep throat?

How long does the alcohol from four vodka drinks last in your system before you can medicate the throat pain from strep throat?

More info: The number of factors play a role including over what time frame you consumed the alcohol, whether or not you consumed the alcohol with food, your bodyweight, as well as what medication you're proposing to treat through pain with. It is probably safe to assume the alcohol would be gone within 10 to 12 hours. ...Read more

Drinking energy drinks give me diarrhea, & a lot of people I know get diarrhea from it as well. What ingredient in energy drinks can give you diarrhea?

Drinking energy drinks give me diarrhea, & a lot of people I know get diarrhea from it as well. What ingredient in energy drinks can give you diarrhea?

Lots of stuff: Many ingredients in energy drinks can cause diarrhea; different people have different sensitivities, so it’s hard to say which one actually causes it in any individual. According to sports physicians i've talked to, the best energy drink is water. One team doctor told me that those big energy drink barrels you see on the sidelines at games are usually full of water, not the advertised product. ...Read more

Is drinking 128 oz of fluid daily safe? I try to mix in Gatorade or electrolyte tabs to prevent Na/K depletion, but concerned about dilution of other things in blood. Must do this to address orthostatic intolerance and not faint.

Is drinking 128 oz of fluid daily safe? I try to mix in Gatorade or electrolyte tabs to prevent Na/K depletion, but concerned about dilution of other things in blood. Must do this to address orthostatic intolerance and not faint.

Better question: If that's what you need to prevent orthostasis then, nothing will happen to you but a more interesting question to ask is WHY does a 29 year old have orthostasis if they drink any less than 128 oz. of fluid daily? That is not a normal situation. Has that been investigated and discovered? If you'd like to chat about this 1-1 please write me at: www.healthtap.com/dr-drsaghafi ...Read more

I need to eat and drink organic matter to stop my sensitive biliary artesia liver going into failure. Can I live off health drinks for this?

I need to eat and drink organic matter to stop my sensitive biliary artesia liver going into failure. Can I live off health drinks for this?

Depends: As an adult survivor of biliary atresia, your bravery evokes admiration in all of us. Healthy eating allows tremendous choice even for normal folks, and your personal physician is the one who can help you decide based on what you like and can tolerate. And heads-up -- "health drinks" made at a local outlet may not be exactly what they're said to be. Good luck & again i admire your being proactive. ...Read more
