If someone has lymphoma what would be "off" or abnormal in the CBC and cmp if anything?

If someone has lymphoma what would be "off" or abnormal in the CBC and cmp if anything?

Nothing: As stated in prior response the lymphomas won't necessarily show in routine labs. Lypmphoma panalel may be more specific but if you have elargesd lymph nodes getting a ct scan of chest abdomen and pelvis and / or biosy is the better way to go than to "wait" until routine labs change it could be too late if a lymphoma is present to monitor by blood only. ...Read more

If someone had lymphoma wouldn't their lymphocytes in CBC be abnormal or the t cells and b cells? Bc that's where the lymphoma originates isn't it?

Not always: The complete blood count (CBC) can be normal in lymphoma. Lymphoma may or may not be detectable in peripheral blood. The cancer may be limited to the lymph nodes and bone marrow. In some lymphomas the lymphoma cells can be found in the peripheral blood (a so called leukemic phase). ...Read more

Would a CBC show lymphoma or leukemia?

Would a CBC show lymphoma or leukemia?

Likely for leukemia: Oftentimes leukemias can be picked up on routine CBC since it is a cancer of the blood and causes abnormal values of your red and white blood cells to appear. Lymphomas do not always affect the blood in a way that would be picked up on cbc. All leukemias however will not be picked up on routine CBC and CBC alone will not tell you what kind of leukemia specifically one might have. ...Read more

Does CBC is a reliable test and sure to detect if you have lymphoma or leukemia or sometimes CBC cannot detect this diseases?

CBC Utility: 1. Leukemia & lymphoma make up a huge and diverse number of different disease states.
2. These can be pre-symptomatic or advanced or in between. 3. The complete blood count (CBC) can be abnormal & there is NOT cancer (eg high WBC with UTI or pneumonia). 4. The CBC can be normal and a cancer is present. 5. Cancer diagnosis depends on many things. CBC may help along with more specialized tests. ...Read more

Can indolent lymphoma - lymphnodes remain unchanged in size for 7 years with normal CBC - LDH??

Yes: Indolent means not growing or slow growing. It is quite common for this disease to remain stable for years. However, I would recommend regular follow up visits and labs (and Imaging studies as needed) since there is a 10% risk of transformation to a very aggressive lymphoma at any time. ...Read more

Can you have normal blood count (cbc) and lymphoma?

Can you have normal blood count (cbc) and lymphoma?

Yes: Lymphoma is a cancerous condition coming from lymphocytes, one type of white blood cells that protect your body from infection. Usually it arises from lymph glands or lymphoid tissues (tonsils, spleen etc) and rarely from non lymphoid tissue (bowels, thyroid). It would not cause change in blood count unless the bone marrow is involved and overwhelmed by the cancer cells which then will be stage iv. ...Read more

Could a complete blood count (cbc) determine leukemia or lymphoma?

Not the best way: A blood cell count and blood smear may provide an indication of leukemia, however, diagnosis usually requires examination of bone marrow. Diagnosis of lymphoma usually requires biopsy of the node and examination of the tissue by a pathologist. ...Read more

Can CBC show lymphoma? Or could it at least make the doctor request other tests for lymphoma?

Maybe: Malignant lymphoma cells only enter the blood late -- if they were there early, it would be a leukemia. Anemia, especially if coombs-positive, raises suspicion for lymphoma. The classic triad of fever, weight loss, and night sweats of course suggests lymphoma, but the key is the discovery of a mass in a lymphoid area. Hodgkin's is common in youngsters; non-Hodgkin's in older folks. ...Read more

What's the difference between a CBC and a cbc/w differential? I had the CBC with diff can this see for blood cancers leukemia. Lymphoma etc

CBC is a short: Hand that confuses. It looks at the red blood cell count and white blood cell count and commonly describes hemoglobin, hematocrit and mchc, MCV indices to guess at anemia cause. The differential segregates the white cell count into neutrophils and lymphocytes. If normal, you don;t have leukemia. If not, marrow and closr analysis necessary. ...Read more

Mpv is 13.4 - everything else on cbc, including extended wbcs were normal. Should I be worried? Specifically - lymphoma? 1cm lymph nodes submandibular

Nope! Don't worry!: Mpv stands for mean platelet volume, or how big your platelets are. And yours are pretty normal. 5-15 is the normal range. With everything else in the normal range, there's nothing to worry about. One centimeter lymph nodes are normal, especially in someone your age. Lymph node: Doubtful. There would be other signs besides the lymph node becoming bigger, like weight loss, night sweats, etc. The CBC would also show issues with the WBC and platelet count besides anemia. The location of the node also plays a major role if its more serious. Some lymph nodes become "shoddy" and stop functioning and can remain enlarged which is normal. ...Read more

Do lymphomas grow symmetricalaly? Have 2 symmetrical groin lymph nodes. 2 docs say don't worry - perfect CBC Have health anxiety so I worry

Possible lymphoma: A single firm lesion in the groin could always be pathologic and not inflammatory. Symmetrical nodes rarely represent bilateral mets which could occur from a lesion near the anal canal. If the nodes do not enlarge, and are soft then watching is justified. If nodes increase in size and number then excisional bx indicated. FNA is rarely of value in lymph node pathology. ...Read more

Extremely itchy everywhere and have 6-7 petechiae spots. Normal CBC (WBC 8.8, plateltets 331) Is it leukemia or lymphoma??!??!

Scratching causes it: Petechiae result from a minor bleed from a broken capillary blood vessel. The most common cause for petechiae limited to a specific area is local trauma. Scratching is a common cause. If your petechiae appeared in certain areas only after you started scratching that would be a likely cause. If that is not the case or if your problem persist or worsen see your
physician for a specific diagnosis. ...Read more

I have a normal cbc. I have transient bone aches, generalized itching, and light night sweats. I also have a history of hypochondria. Should I be concerned with Lymphoma? What should I ask my doctor?

Here's my advice: Everybody gets transient bone aches and if you don't drench the sheets it's probably not a night sweat. Try changing your soap and laundry detergent; if you've still got the itch, get with your physician. Lymphoma is usually not this subtle in its presentation and you're a bit young for a non-Hodkin's and a bit old for Hodgkin's. Especially, work on staying aerobically fit -- helps with worry. ...Read more

Are anxiety and night sweats related? Scared I have lymphoma due to a swollen lymph node. CBC is fine and doctor says infection.

Try not to sweat it: Sometimes people do sweat at night and it's related to anxiety. However, you did the right thing by seeing your doctor. If you are being treated for an infection, that can cause you to sweat. A swollen lymph node can be a reaction to infection. Be sure to follow up with your doctor if you continue to sweat or have a swollen lymph node. We only worry if the swollen node is chronic. ...Read more

Went to doctors and told me I had an infection, I have a stuffy nose and a cough with phlegm. Are these related to the reason of my swollen node? I'm scared it could be lymphoma! My cbc work was okay.

Yes, related: Lymph nodes are part of our immune system. They swell up when we are fighting off infections. If they are very large and do not go down within a few months after your infection then see your doctor. They swell up to take care of you. Don't worry unless they remain large. ...Read more

Please the doctors think I have lymphoma are making me go to ENT due to 1 tonsil being 50% bigger than the other-no other symptoms im so scared im crying constantly. My CBC is normal chest/abd CT norma?

See below...: I'm not sure they really think it's lymphoma. The just want to be cautious and make sure they cover all the bases. Asymmetrical enlargement of the tonsils is indeed an indication to rule out lymphoma but by no means you should interpret it as clear evidence of lymphoma. Your ENT may recommend taking out the tonsils for a definitive diagnosis. ...Read more
