Doctor insights on:
Not necessarily, but: If someone has obsessions about food being contaminated and such, s/he may be very cautious about eating -- and therefore lose weight. I've known patients whose obsessions covered many things, including foods. This can cross over into eating disorders. There's a syndrome called "orthorexia nervosa", where the person strives to eat absolutely perfectly. Unintended illness (& weight loss) can result. ...Read more
Not really: Because OCD is complex, I understand why you ask. I have not noted this nor has a quick survey point to this. However, if you have noticed change coinciding with growth spurt, do make sure you and your psychiatrist thoroughly investigate. The significant shifts in hormonal change-particularly with growth spurt- certainly should be thoroughly considered. If OCD began around puberty, up urgency. ...Read more

Adding a dopamine medication such as latuda/wellbutrin to an ocd/bipolar patient--wouldn't this make the OCD worse?
Not really.: Latuda (lurasidone) is an antipsychotic. Sometimes ocd is so severe that it reaches psychotic proportions, that Latuda (lurasidone) can help. But it is not indicated for ocd itself. Neither drug can make ocd worse. ...Read more
