Is having congenital heart disease something to worry about? My wife is upset since my son's doctor visit.

Time for conference: If your wife left the visit confused about the lable of chd it was likely poorly explained or mom was unable to process the info at the time & ask important questions. A good phone conversation or consutation visit should get everybody on track. Chd can be minor & have no impact on one's life or require major surgery. Is having cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea something to worry about? My wife is upset since my son's doctor visit.

Csf rhinorrhea: Unfortunately yes. The question is why does he have fluid from around his brain (CSF) coming from his nose. My wife B12 result shows whereas is 200 to 960, do need to worry, before going for test she took 2500 mcg for 7 days, is that high range due to it?

My wife B12 result shows whereas is 200 to 960, do need to worry, before going for test she took 2500 mcg for 7 days, is that high range due to it?

This is the lab: Normal range. Not her value. Her result will likely be invalidated by the taking of B12 before the test. I would go on sub lingual B12 1.2 mg once a week and check to make sure this gives you a level of at least 350. Do what ever it takes to keep this number above 350 for the rest of her life. ...Read more

My wife is in 41 weeks and no signs of labour. What are the most effective natural induction ways you are suggesting? Should we worry for this latency?!

Consider acupuncture: The cochrane review looks at all studies about a topic - their latest review on the safety and effectiveness of acupuncture for the induction of labor stated acupuncture "appears safe, has no known adverse effects to the fetus, and may be effective. However, the evidence regarding the clinical effectiveness of this technique is limited." 41 weeks is common, but check with your OB about concerns. ...Read more

Probably normal: There are many normal reasons for a brief sharp pain including stretching ligaments, gas, and straining a muscle. If it went away and you have no bleeding don't worry about it. My wife anomaly scan showed placenta grade 2 maturity as my wife is 20 week pregnant. Is there anything to worry or it is normal?

It's normal: Placentas are usually graded on sonogram base on the degree of calcification that is present within the placenta. These may appears as white echogenic areas on sonogram. The grading as somewhat subjective but in general the farther along the pregnancy, the more mature is the placenta and hence there is more calcification present. A grade 3 placenta may imply that the pregnancy is term or near term ...Read more

If me and my wife have asymptomatic herpes, should we worry about the birth of our child? Is it a very low chance of anything happening?

If me and my wife have asymptomatic herpes, should we worry about the birth of our child? Is it a very low chance of anything happening?

OB can manage: The worst cases are more likely when mom has an initial outbreak (infection) at the time of delivery. At that time neither she or baby would have any antibodies to herpes and progressive herpes encephalitis/death is possible. With asymptomatic herpes there is less but some risk, mom & babe would have some antibodies, and OB's can plan a c-section before the water breaks if an outbreak occurs. ...Read more

Just curious to know what does low amh mean? Coz my wife had her result and am so upset and what is the best treatment? . Best regardes

Just one test: Anti mullerian hormone is just one test to get a sense of a womans "ovarian reserve". A low result suggests that her own ovaries may have a hard time producing healthy eggs for a pregnancy. But it's only one of several tests we do to assess ovarian reserve. Usually we also test fsh and Estradiol levels on certain cycle days & measure ovarian volume and resting antral follicle counts. ...Read more

My wife found 3 months ago 4 lymph nodes on the left side of her neck. They might already be there and appear to be 5 mm or less. Should worry?

I doubt it: If they are not growing, not stony-hard, and freely-movable, they sound like the lymph nodes that almost all of us have. She can ask her physician at her next physical. If they do start growing, get fixed to a nearby structure, or hurt bad, get seen. ...Read more

My wife is pregnant by 18weeks and today usg showed low placenta by 22mm. Do we need to worry about it and what is the normal range of low placenta...

No: I think anything less than 1.5 cm to the inner cervical os is considered a low-lying placenta--don't quote me on that. Either way, so early in the pregnancy, a low lying placenta is not very relevant; unless the patient is symptomatic (e.g. consistent vaginal bleeding). I would probably repeat a placenta focused study around 30/32 weeks. At that point, if the placenta is low lying; then worry. ...Read more
