Working Mom Vs Full Time Mom
10 m/old baby suddenly prefers dad. Did this a bit at 7 months too. both work and share baby duties. Going 2C a therapist but feeling hurt. Typical?
Why fret ?: Please never give adult properties to an infants changing whims. Infants develop preference based on situational events.Whoever seems to provide more feeding/nurturing/attention whether related or not is often the favored guardian for today, but that could change tomorrow. Don't expect a baby to validate you, that's too much pressure on them. They may understand what you do when they have kids. ...Read more
My dad has degenerative brain disease. My mom works full time caring for him. Where do we get assistance?
88 yr old mother is confused and barely mobile. Brother who is caregiver plans to take her on family's winter vacation. Isn't she too vulnerable?
Treat/Prevent: If a mom develops varicella infection before or shortly after delivery the baby is at risk to develop varicella and possible complications. The baby may look well at birth only to later develop vesicles 3-10 days after exposure. Vzig is given for exposure and premature infants are at particularly high risk for complications. An anti-viral agent is recommended if the baby has varicella. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

When parents are: Separated, each can control only what goes on in his/her own home. Other than increasing financial support to mom ; child for their own home and nurturing child-care, there is little you can do, unless you observe signs of reportable child abuse or neglect. Chronic parental conflict can cause post-divorce emotional child abuse at any age. Co-parenting classes can help prevent or remediate this. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Baby nurses for 2-3 min then starts crying and refuses to latch on again. Good milk supply. Dr evaluated baby and said healthy.
Not enought details: Is your baby growing well? If so, it's possible that you have an extremely rapid letdown, and baby is 'flooded' with milk in the first few minutes of nursing. If that's the case, baby doesn't want to latch on because he's full. If not growing, let down may be slow; pump a few minutes to get flow going, then put baby on. Have lactation spec. Or pediatrician watch you nurse-getting areola in? ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I am a mother for 15 weeks gal baby. Every 2 hrs once i breastfeed her. Few times baby demands milk for 1 hr only. Is it the sign of insufficiency?
Normal breastfeeding: It is normal for babies to vary how often and how much they want to nurse. Just like we don't eat the same amount every day, babies vary too. When babies go through growth spurts, they may want to nurse more frequently. ...Read more
92 yr old dad with CHF and third stage kidney failure is doing great after a bout with illness but refuses to see any doctors now/mentally alert /?
Control salt & water: The best avenue for him with CHF and ckd stage iii is to control sodium below 3000 mg a day and fluids less than 1500 ml per day (1.5 quarts) which is 8 of the 6 ounce cups a day. Needs to take his water pills as prescribed. Given age of 92 and lack of interest to see a doc, you may discuss possibility of hospice esp if he has no interest in being admitted to hospital if gets worse. ...Read more
Im a breastfeeding mom of a 2mo old. Im about 5' & 100lbs. How can I safely consume a few alcoholic beverages w/o harming my baby? I own a breast pump
No need to pump & : Dump per laleche league's the breastfeeding answer book (pp. 597-598) alcohol passes freely into mother's milk & has been found to peak about 30- 60 minutes after consumption, 60-90 minutes when taken with food. Alcohol also freely passes out of a mother's milk and her system. It takes a 120 pound woman ~ 2-3 hours to eliminate from her body the alcohol in one serving of beer or wine. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My oxygen dependent 5y.O with trach weighs 36lbs. A small m6 tank in backpack weighs 4lbs. Is it ok for him to carry on own to play 30+ min outside?
Boy with O2: Without knowing all the facts, but assuming your boy can carry the 4 pound m6 tank in a backpack inside the house with a problem, then it would seem to be a very good idea to let him play outdoors in a safe place. He should however always be supervised to keep him out of trouble. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

More info needed: Some normal children may not talk until 18 months but usually there is at least baby talk (babbling) even if words are not understandable. Are other developmental milestones being achieved? A 15-month-old should wave bye, walk, feed self, scribble, etc. Sometimes epilepsy can be associated with developmental delay. A pediatric exam can help determine if there is a problem, and refer if needed. ...Read more
Vitamin E and Folic : Food high in vitamin e and Folic Acid help decrease red blood cell breakdown in g6pd. Definitely avoid fava beans since they are a known cause of red blood cell breakdown in the blood. My 85 year old mom was told stage 4 liver cancer doing no treatment need to leave work. How long does she have i want to help with herand spend time?
Varies but not long: How long some one lives with stage IV liver cancer( hepatocellular cancer and not metastatic from other primary site) depends on the aggressiveness of the cancer and how well she is functioning. Would suggest spending as much time sooner while you can mutually enjoy each other's company. Weeks to a few months. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My 5 month old has lissencephaly, classic type 1. Will it make a big difference in his health if i stop breadtfeeding and start formula full time?
No.: You are doing a great job taking care of your son! I cannot think of any reason why changing from breast feeding to formula would make any difference in his health. He may need a swallow study to make sure his liquids do not need to be thickened as children with lissencephaly often aspirate (i.e. when food goes from the stomach into the lungs). May sure he gets a flu shot at 6 months. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
