Tinnitus: Asymmetric tinnitus is an acoustic neuroma until proven otherwise. Your ENT must examine you and evaluate with an audiogram and MRI if suspicious of neuroma. Spontaneous and short lived ringing in one ear - very loud, it almost feels like I've been hit in the head. This happens once every few days.
Tinnitus: If your tinnitus is of recent origin and if it's associated with new hearing loss and/or vertigo, evaluation by an otolaryngologist or a neurologist is recommended. It is possible but unlikely.
I would make sure there is nothing else wrong in the ear. Like fluid in your ear? Or it can be from your irrigations some times.
