Depersonalization, headaches, mental fatigue and hard small red painful bump on back of head after smoking marijuana once, what could this all be?

Lyme can be accompanied by the other symptoms described. Rocky mountain spotted fever, recluse spider bite, abscess and even closed head injury would be other possibilities. ...Read more

My son has a bump or lump on the back of his head (occipital bone) it seems to come and go away. It does not hurt when he touches it. Should I be worr?

Simple vs serious: Our bodies always have things that grow and change. Skin, fat, muscle, lymph nodes, bones, can change shape, get larger, more prominent due to many factors. The vast majority are not cancer but simply unusual growths like fatty tumors, cysts, skin tags, moles, etc. Most cause no symptoms and can be watched. If they cause symptoms or change colors, bleed, bruise or hurt, then see your doctor. ...Read more

Bumps appearing on back of head. First on mastoid (firm and non-painful, grows when agitated). Second on occipital (firm and painful).

Lumps/nodes: These sound like lymph nodes which can occur at these sites behind the ears or at the base of the neck. Often it may be related to a scalp condition (skin infection, sores) if there are no other signs of these in your lower neck areas. Hair products, dyes, ? tattoos are other considerations possibly causing this swelling. F/U with MD if not resolving over a few weeks. ...Read more

Although itching often points to an allergic contact condition (hair preparations especially black hair dye), it may also be from a skin cancer. 15 year old male. Hard lump on back of head. On the right a little. Size of large pea. It pokes out so it is very easy to feel. Should skull have bumps?

Lymph node: There are many lymph nodes in the neck and back of the head that are often more noticeable because they are located where our fat pads don't hide them. If you feel around you should find several the size of a pea ; sometimes bigger. They can increase to the size of a big peanut if stimulated by local factors, illness or vaccines. I would just monitor it or have doc see it during regular visit. ...Read more

I've been told that there is only one doctor who will operate on the occipital bone. Bump on my head that is in the center bottom of Occipital bone?

Why needed?: Do you gave a terribly deformed occipital bone? If it's simply a minor cosmetic problem, then best to leave well enough alone. You say "there is only one doctor who will operate": is your problem so rare there is a lack of experienced doctors; or is it because experienced doctors disapprove? I suspect they disapprove. Unless you have a serious deformity, I think you should too. Hope that helps. ...Read more

Woke up with a small bump on the back of my head, it hurt as if I had bumped my head, even though I cannot remember doing it. What could it be?

Head bump: Tough to say without an exam. It could be a scalp cyst, which are very common, or you may have bumped it and just forgot, and now have a small bruise/bump there. If the latter, it should resolve, if other causes and it doe not resolve, then get the area evaluated and examined. Good luck. ...Read more

I have a bump on the top of my head in the back center, doesn't move, doesn't hurt to the touch, woke up with a headache when I noticed it yesterday?

Natural skull: Common complaint. I have had many patients that for some reason like a head ache or hair problem start to palpate their scalp and skull.

Woke up with a small bump on the back of my neck and it's painful. Spent time in a hair salon where my head was in a stiff position. What could it be?

Many Possibilities: Depending on how long it's been going on, I would consider an evaluation by a spine specialist. Sometimes it could be a muscle imbalance, early onset arthritis or scoliosis. Also could be a pinched nerve/herniated disc. Either way it might be good to figure it out and get appropriate treatment. ...Read more

I woke up this morning with a small bump on the back of my head, right side. The bump is about the size of a mosquito bite. (Half a dime) very painful to the touch. Hurts when I lay my head down. What could this be?

Inflammation &/or an: Infection. You need an in-person exam by a provider that can lay eyes on it. If it's a hair follicle infection, it's called a furuncle, which, without treatment, can progress to cellulitis &/or abscess. If >1 follicle gets involved, then it's a carbuncle. Talk to your doc about need for drainage, aspiration, culture, empiric antibiotic treatment. If lymphadenitis, use ultrasound & needle biopsy. ...Read more

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor to exclude treatable issues like high blood pressure.

Trying to wakeup, my body was paralyze. I started shaking violently in my upper rt body. Woke-up, with pain left back of head. Should I be concern?

Yes, should be.: Possible partial seizure (have you stopped your Gabapentin in the recent past), and/or even a small ischemic stroke (any other symptoms?). You may have also woken during a very specific period of sleep that can cause momentary paralysis when transitioning from sleep to wake, but that wouldn't cause head pain. I would recommend getting assessed by a physician asap with workup to be safe. ...Read more
