Is it possible for a bruise to never go away? My 2 year old got a black eye 1 month ago and there is still bruising around her eye.

It might be pigment: Sometimes after a bruise there is residual pigmentation (hemosiderin and/or melanin) that is left after the blood itself is cleared away. This can take months to fully clear for some people. It is very unlikely that this will persist much longer than a few months, so if it is not clearing or if it seems to be worsening, i'd recommend seeing your doctor. ...Read more

Bruise healing: Bruises result from trauma to small blood vessels under the skin. When they rupture, blood leaks out into the surrounding tissue, leaving a painful (usually) red mark. As the blood ages and the body resorbs the leak, bruises change color (red, to purple, brown and yellow/green). Bruises will disappear on your body's timeline. ...Read more

If your pain is in the bone beneath your eye, those fractures tend to heal on their own very well. Concerning symptoms would be if you had difficulty moving the actual eye ball on the affected side.
