growing pains: If the need is not swollen, warm, or tender, I would not worry too much about it. Try some Motrin over the next 24 hours. If it is not getting better, see your pediatrician.

See Ortho if Needed: Usually most pain resolves on its own, however if it persists or you have swelling noted you may want to see an orthopedic doctor to evaluate it further. Use Ibuprofen or aleve (naproxen) around the clock for the next several days to help as well.

Yesterday was first time I went parallel skiing. I woke up with pain on the inside of my left knee hurts more when I bend the knee. What can it be?

Yesterday was first time I went parallel skiing. I woke up with pain on the inside of my left knee hurts more when I bend the knee. What can it be?

MCL / meniscus.?: Skiing can stress the medial collateral ligament w/ valgus (knock-kneed) injuries or repeated 'cutting' or changing direction while skiing. If your knee continues to hurt despite nsaids and time, or develops swelling inside the joint it could be your cartilage (medial meniscus). This is usually more likely injured w/ a twisting mechanism and may require surgery... Good luck!

Abscess: You may have skin infection going on. The pimple has spread inflammation around and that's what causes pain and swelling. See doc to get it treated. Don't tamper with it yourself.

Woke up with knee pain hurts to walk on it or bend it certain ways Swollen too. Feels numb when pressure is on it.

Get it checked: Would try some anti inflammatory medication for now. Sounds like a issue incise the knee like a meniscus or cartilage tear. Recommend you follow up with an orthopedist

Joint or bursitis: Your physician will need to evaluate you to see if you have internal knee problems in the inside medial knee such as cartilage or joint pain or if it comes from bursitis on the outside of your medial knee - often anserine bursitis. Each of these conditions could mimic the pain you describe.

Could be arthritis: Arthritis frequently manifests as pain with the onset of activity and then improves with continued activity, and may get worse with too much activity. Anti-inflammatory medicines are a good place to start. Exercise and weight loss also help.

Woke up with knee pain 2 days ago a lot of pain can't weight bear much not swollen had Advil (ibuprofen) every 4-6 hrs and rest pain down to foot sprain?

Knee Nightmare: Knee pain can be a symptom of a local problem or referred from another joint like the hip or ankle. Most intrinsic problems of the knee, if acute, are due to a soft tissue, supporting structure injury. Inflammatory diseases can also affect the knee (gout, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis). Ice added to any regimen is great, inexpensive and can be repeated indefinitely with little adverse effects.

I have a strained back and knee. It's been about 2 weeks and not getting better and my knee hurts after school.

More info needed: First, we would need to find out what you did to strain your back and your knee. We also need to know what activities in which you are currently participating, as they may have prevented you from having enough recovery time to heal. Please give us more information.

Weather has started getting cold and my knee hurts all the time now. It is from a old injury. What can I do to help the pain?

Determine pain cause: Do you have arthritis? Is this tendonitis? Is there swelling of the knee? Could you have a meniscal tear? To effectively treat pain, you have to determine the cause, if possible. For now, rest from offending activities, ice for 20 minutes at a time, take OTC ibuprofen in only the recommended amt. And consider a brace. If I can help, then join my care team at www. Healthtap. Com/dr-clarkeholmes

My knee popped then I had extreme pain in my lower back that has made walking very difficult can't straighten my back? And my knee hurts please help

Need to see orthopod: When a knee pops as you describe it often indicates an injury or tear to an internal structure like the meniscus. The back pain may be related to the injury but the persistent knee pain may need attention - anti-inflammatories and pt initially but may also need arthroscopic saurgery.

I've started a new running program and my knee hurts behind the kneecap when running and when going down stairs. What is the cause and what can help?

Patellofemoral pain: You most likely have patellofemoral syndrome, sometimes associated with cartilage damage behind the kneecap termed chondromalacia. We treat this syndrome with strengthening of the medial quad called the vmo as well as the hamstrings and the hip abductors. Stretching the it band is also important. Getting customized running shoes from a quality running store is key as well.

I have low back pain when I sit the pain goes to my knee and my knee hurts a lot but my back hurts to please explain I twisted in bed?

I have low back pain when I sit the pain goes to my knee and my knee hurts a lot but my back hurts to please explain I twisted in bed?

Yes: When sitting or stretching legs while sitting the nerves can get pinched from herniated discs and result in the numbness. If it bothers you especially with pain and not just the numbness, you may want to see a spine specialist to serif there is anything that can be done. Numbness in those positions probably only need core strengthening exercise therapy.
