Withdrawal Off Xanax While Pregnant
Not recommended: The best thing is to seek help for alcohol withdrawal, which can be dangerous. Check with your doctor and get her/his recommendations for withdrawal treatment. Xanax (alprazolam) doesn't last as long in the body as valium or librium, and there could be a risk of seizures if it wears off and the alcohol withdrawal breaks through. Don't try this at home! ...Read more
When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more
At 34 weeks of pregnancy if you were to take a Xanax would the baby have withdrawals or test positive at birth? She doesn’t take it all the time
If I've been taking xanax (alprazolam) for awhile and 33weeks pregnant will my family doctor prescribe them to me I have very bad anxiety! And withdrawals are bad?
Psychiatrist: Xanax (alprazolam) has a pregnancy category of D. I'd suggest talking all of the risks over with your OB/GYN and a psychiatrist. Xanax (alprazolam) is not recommended during pregnancy because it enters the breast milk and has been demonstrated to increase the risk of congenital abnormalities. A psychiatrist can offer much safer alternatives than this. Hope that helps! ...Read more

Probably not: I rarely recommend taking Xanax daily for any period of time. It is meant to be used only as needed. However, dependence and withdrawal symptoms typically do not occur until after about 1 month of regular use. Some people are more sensitive, though, and will have increased anxiety after discontinuing even a 2 week course of Xanax. ...Read more
It would be worse: The treatment of withdrawal syndromes is with drugs that are longer acting than the drug from which you are withdrawing. Klonopin should be gradually tapered over several months in people who are on appreciable doses for a long time. Xanax (alprazolam) is short-acting, will relieve the symptoms but produce more dependency than the Klonopin did. Anticonvulsant meds (depakote. Neurontin) can help. ...Read more

How to taper off 10 days of 0.25mg xanax (alprazolam).Taking ½ of 0.25 for 6 days but getting withdrawal symptoms. Should I go up to ¾ of 0.25 mg first. How long?
How to stop xanax (alprazolam): The withdrawal from xanax (alprazolam) is difficult and can take weeks. You can either convert to a long acting benzo or substitute xanax (alprazolam) with an antiseizure medication (phenobarbital), which is then slowly tapered. This is an old method, probably the best, but must be done under medical supervision. Xanax (alprazolam) has a short action that makes it very difficult to taper. ...Read more
Bad side effects/ possible withdrawal from xanax (alprazolam). Taking. 5 mg day for 2 mths. Feel horrible! Please recommend taper/help. Dr. Says Xanax (alprazolam) is safe.?
Possible Taper: I'm guessing that you take xanax (alprazolam) for anxiety. If you are only taking it once a day, withdrawal is unlikely given it's effects are a short couple hours. If you are taking it more than 2 x's a day then you may be having wd sx's.Generally a taper is by 0.25 to 0.5 mg a day for 1-2 weeks, then lower by the same amt every 1-2weeks until off the xanax (alprazolam). Please talk to your practioner for other options. ...Read more

Depends: Withdrawal symptoms indicate that physical dependence has developed. If tapered and stopped responsibly, there are no withdrawal symptoms -- usually another drug is substituted to withdraw from. If it is precipitous, withdrawal symptoms can last from about 7 to 14 days. But symptoms that alprazolam was treating can re-emerge. If addicted, cravings and a prolonged withdrawal syndrome may develop ...Read more

I have taken 1. 25mg pill of xanax (alprazolam) daily for almost a year for anxiety. Would stopping suddenly cause major withdrawal?
It's a low dose: But taking it for a year suggests you are probably saturated, and at risk for withdrawal sx's if you suddenly stop. Run this by your MD before stopping. The MD probably will suggest thinning your dose by going to every other day or even cutting this small dose in half and then thinning. Withdrawing suddenly might cause anxiety, sleeplessness, poor concentration, irritability and??? ...Read more
Is 0.5mg Xanax taken 3 times a week before bed, never on two consecutive days safe for long term use (i.e. not withdrawal problems)?
Better ways to treat: Drugs classified as controlled substances or that have propensity to cause dependency issues should never be chosen as 1st line drugs for long term use as sleep aid if the cause of insomnia has not been sought and treated. Much better ways available to treat than using such drugs; especially if root cause can be found. Write me at: www. Healthtap. Com/dr-saghafi if you'd like to discuss. ...Read more
Can taking Xanax (alprazolam) for 2 weeks and then stopping cause withdrawal symptoms? Didn't take every day made 12. 5 mg last 2 weeks
Alprazolam is a short acting benzodiazepine, it does not last long in the system.
