Withdrawal Bleeding During Placebo Pill
Is withdrawal bleeding (not spotting, actual bleeding) during placebo week on combination birth control pills evidence you are not pregnant?
Placebos are generally medications and sometimes physical or psychological substitutes which in themselves have no known effect but which cause the patient to feel as if they are getting some effect. They depend upon patient expectations and the fact that there is a strong psychological component ...Read more
Period or withdrawal bleeding came before taking 21st pill. (before washout week). Is this ok? Never skipped pill. Loestrin.
Spotting on OCPs: Spotting while on loestrin can be caused by a delay in taking the pill, taking a medication (like antibiotics) that interfered with the effectiveness of the contraceptive. It can also occur in women who are above an average weight. You should discuss this with your doctor if it continues to occur. ...Read more
About 3 days: withdrawal bleeds are caused by the destabilization of the lining of the uterus when it is no longer exposed to the progesterone component of your birth control pill. restarting birth control pills after you have started bleeding can shorten your period but will not stop it instantly because the process has already started I would expect about three days. ...Read more

Had light breakthru bleeding 2 weeks before taking placebo pills, on Yasmin (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) 5 years, never had BTB. Should I have skipped the placebo pills instead?
Not necessarily: I may not make a big difference wether you skipped the placebo pills or not. Either way you would be protected from conceiving. Break thru bleeding is common on BCP. Things like stress, significant exercise or weight loss can affect the delicate hormonal control of your cycle. If the breakthrough bleeding reoccurs often see your Gyn to be sure no medical problems are causing it to reoccur. ...Read more

Can taking the Plan B pill while on birth control pills delay your period during the placebo week?
I believe so.: I am not a gynecologist, but my understanding is that Plan B is a high dose of hormones that induce shedding of the lining of the uterus (preventing an egg/embryo from implanting). Taking Plan B while taking placebo (which are sugar pills) will be like taking Plan B by itself. Bleeding based on a new schedule caused by Plan B may be earlier or l8r than usual depending on how ur body reacts. ...Read more
