What happens if people use Synthroid (thyroxine) to lose weight, then why do so many people complain that it makes them get fat?
Doesn't work: If your thyroid function is normal, taking thyroid hormone will not help you lose weight. You would need to take toxic doses to raise your metabolism high enough to lose weight, and will lose more muscle than fat. In addition, high thyroid levels make you more hungry, so many people will gain weight rather than lose. There is no "easy" solution to lose weight. Eat less, exercise more. ...Read more

Yes: Lipozene is a dietary fiber supplement. It can cause mild weight loss because it expands in your stomach and can make you feel full so that you eat less (if you don't eat less you won't lose weight). As long as you take Synthroid (thyroxine) first thing in the morning and wait a few hours before taking the Lipozene, there should be no problem. ...Read more
I have hashimotos and can't seem to lose weight. I am on synthroid (thyroxine). I tried diet. Exercise. Everything! Nothing works. I lose 5 pounds that's it. Help?!
If you are: Biochemically euthyroid (meaning your blood work shows normal thyroid levels), you should calculate your basal energy expenditure (bee) and subtract 500kcal from that number to have a goal number of calories to eat per day. If that does not work, you could also discuss with your doctor the possibility of converting to t4/t3 combination replacement. ...Read more

It: It sounds like you have had a very complicated course since your thyroidectomy. Your symptoms really concern me (high cholesterol, anxiety, rapid pulse), and I would suggest that you should have a complete endocrinology evaluation, but you may also have other issues going on. You can't be both hypo- and hyper-thyroid, but there could be co-existing conditions. Please notify your doctor and have a complete evaluation of your symptoms. ...Read more
If my TSH is on the high end, but in normal range, like 4.1 would Synthroid (thyroxine) help me lose weight?
TSH: Probably. The TSH test itself is not one of the best tests out there. There is a lot of inter-patient variability as well as intra-patient variability. I follow a patient's symptoms. Certainly, if the TSH is greater than 2.5, under active thyroid needs to be considered and one may benefit significantly in losing weight by being on thyroid medications. It depends if you are having symptoms... ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Do you know of anyone having an eating disorder and taken cytomel or Synthroid (thyroxine) to help them lose weight?
I am taking metformin850mg for diebetes and levimir 4 units also take Synthroid (thyroxine) is it safe to take phentermime (fastin) to help lose weight?
My TSH is. 913, T4 Free id 1.95 and T4 is 14.6. I take. 88 mcg of Synthroid (thyroxine) daily. Sluggish and can't lose weight. 53 year-old male. Is. 88 right?
Possibly not: If your lab tests are accurate and reported in the usually accepted units, 0.88 mg of Synthroid (thyroxine) might actually be too much. Your free T4 and T4 are both slightly high and your TSH is almost over-suppressed suggesting that you may be getting too much Synthroid (thyroxine). This is certainly not consistent with your symptoms of sluggishness. This needs review with your treating physician/Endocrinologist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

If: If your thyroid levels are well controlled on your current dosage, you are like a normal person. The only concern would be if the absorption of the thyroid were affected by the fiber; that's not an issue if you take your thyroid pill on an empty stomach. There are no easy answers to losing weight. I have not heard of shinny fiber. Lowering calories and increasing activity are the keys to weight loss. There are a few other guidelines.
