Forever Present: A scar forms when there is healing of an injury to the tissues. Remember that with almost all wounds, healing continues for months and months as we change the stress on the tissues. A scar forms as a result and may have many different appearances and colors. Any dark coloration may fade over time but the tissues never are the same and so some scarring will always be there. ...Read more

I have shingles and I would just like to know if you think swimming would cause worse scarring. The shingles began one week ago.
A person with shingle can transmit the chicken pox virus to some one who is not immune. Do not go swimming unless all the lesions have crusted over, and preferable till after the crusts have fallen off.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more

How to remove scarring from cornea from herpes zoster? Also, what type of vision correcting surgery can I do when I have herpes zoster (shingles)?
Few Options: Scars from Zoster can run deep, making removing them very difficult without damaging the rest of the cornea. Vision correcting surgery (LASIK, PRK, etc.) are not indicated nor useful for corneal scars. If the scar is not in the center of vision it is left alone; if it is severely affecting you, a corneal transplant may be the only option. ...Read more

My dr tried to perform an ablation & couldn't. He says I have scar tissue everywhere from my c sections including my liver, is that normal?
Yes, but: Presuming you are referring to an endometrial ablation, scar tissue within the uterus can make it impossible to insert the instrument into the uterus. The only way adhesions outside the cavity of your uterus could affect this would be from tilting your uterus in a difficult angle. Sometimes this can be overcome with medications or a more experienced hysteroscopic surgeon. ...Read more

I have scarring on the cornea of my eye from a case of shingles I had last year. Any cure for it?
Probably: The cornea is notoriously poor at getting rid of scar tissue. The scarring creates opacities that disturb the vision, sometimes to a significant degree. If superficial, it can sometimes be modified by a laser treatment but most are deep enough that a corneal transplantation is the better option. Check in with your corneal specialist to have this sorted out. ...Read more
