Love to eat Olive oil .My LDL cholesterol went from 85 to 106. Is the saturated fat in extra virgin olive oil harmful. Did it raise LDL cholesterol
Olive oil.: While olive oil is one of the healthier oils as far as the proportions of healthy fasts versus unhealthy fats, it's still an oil, with 18 grams of fat per tablespoon, and could raise your LDL and triglycerides if you use too much. That being said, an LDL of 106 is still pretty good. But try to limit your use of oil in general. ...Read more
Haven't seen evidenc: Saw palmetto is sold to improve symptoms of benign prostate hyperplasia. However, recent review of evidence demonstrates no benefit at even higher than recommended doses. It's not clear how saw palmetto (doesn't) works but it doesn't appear to affect either testosterone or dihydrotestosterone. Excess t can increase body hair but it's conversion into Dht could cause male pattern baldness. ...Read more
Probably not ...: The benefits of taking saw palmetto has remained unclear and conflicting despite research of decades. Facing so much uncertainty, I would suggest: Always test T-level before TRT, test T-level 1-2 months later to see how TRT raises T-level and evaluate clinical response, then add saw palmetto and test T-level in 1-2 months to see how the change of T can be. Ask Doc timely for reasonable details. ...Read more
Was on flomax (tamsulosin) for bph. Is a mix of saw palmetto .320mg and bets-sitosterol 100mg, pumpkin seed, corn silk, pygeum a good mix for enlarged prostate?
See below: There is conflicting and contradictory research about the benefits of supplements for prostate symptoms. Saw palmetto most studied. Despite much anecdotal evidence suggesting benefit(s) from the supplements you mention, high quality and more reliable research seem to indicate that these supplements have little or no benefit for reducing bph-related symptoms. Very high placebo response. ...Read more
Probably okay...: I don't believe if there is a study to confirm the potential interaction among these natural substances. So, use them in moderation, watch, and see. But remember: occasionally, some so-called natural products may secretly mix and adulterate some prescribed ingredients to pump up its claimed effects because such products are not fda-regulated. Crestor (rosuvastatin): Crestor (rosuvastatin) is a medication that can raise your hdl. Since you are 18 with hypertension, that is already abnormal. Probably not: Some small studies have failed to demonstrate a reliable cholesterol lowering effect w supplement garlic (marketed to achieve this). Remember supplements are licensed by the fda as "food". They have to demonstrate as safe to ingest, but they are not held up to the pharmaceutical standard of proving that by work. Anecdotal testimonials are used to promote, but they are at least safe to try. ...Read more

Anything's possible: But saw palmetto is not known to increase testosterone. Generally, saw palmetto is used to decrease the conversion of testosterone to one of its metabolites called DHT. Elevated levels of DHT may contribute to enlargement of the prostate gland. Thus, many men use saw palmetto with the hopes that it will arrest the development of an enlarged prostate. ...Read more

Talking to Doctors: Unfortunately you are asking us to read your doctor's mind and surmise a reason for his increase in dosage or change in treatment. You do realize that you have the right to ask your physician questions. Don't you? There is nothing in your numbers that would give me any reason to change your statin dose, but there must be more to the story. ...Read more
