Probably: I am careful when i prescribe Prozac (fluoxetine) for my patients, as it can be very strong, too strong for some. If you take too much, it can cause more anxiety. This is why, i never start someone on more than 10 mgs per day and then, i wait a month before i consider increasing the dose. Prozac (fluoxetine) lasts a very long time in one's system, dosage changes should be very gradual, start low, go slow. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Probably not: To my knowledge, there have been no studies to compare the two in depression. Abilify (aripiprazole) and coffee are two different things with totally different mechanism of actions. Yes, both can be used as 'adjunct' to your treatment. Coffee can help with alertness, fatigue, etc, of depression. Abilify (aripiprazole) is an atipsychotic by nature. It has serious side effects like increasing your weight, cholesterol, and sugar. ...Read more
Is garcinia cambogia really effective and safe as some people have claimed it to be? Does it help with depression and anxiety as well as weight loss?
Doesn't seem so: Garcnia cambogia is an ingredient in some herbal weight loss, appetite suppressant, and energy products. An analysis of data found a possible short-term weight loss effect (under 1 kilogram). But liver toxicity—led to one preparation being withdrawn from the market. Another controlled study showed it no better than placebo. There is nothing i can find that shows help for anxiety or depression. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Dr is raising my venlafaxine from 75 mg to 150 mg should this help with moodiness and mood swings as well as depression?
Do antidepressants work well for back pain and osteoarthritis? If so, are tca's the best such as amitriptyline?
Can Effexor (venlafaxine) work well for helping with depression and do the side effects go away over time?
It depends...: Effexor (venlafaxine) works very well for some people, not so well for others, same as other antidepressants. Some people have difficulty with side effects initially, especially nausea. Going very slowly up on the dose usually eliminates that problem although some people describe always having a slight feeling of nausea no matter what. As far as efficacy, getting to the right dose is essential. ...Read more

Evaluation: Get an evaluation from a psychiatrist to help identify what depression/bipolar/self-esteem means to you and whatever else may be bothering you. Dosage is raised carefully: use of both clinical assessment and anxiety rating scales to assess progress. Progress takes patience. ...Read more

I have tried pretty much every medication for my severe depression as well as mood stabilizers. Nothing works what next as far as treatment goes?
Combination rx, ECT: Severe depression unresponsive to the usual meds is called "treatment resistant." strategies include maximizing dosages & "augmenting" with additional meds. Electroconvulsive treatment (ect, "shock treatment") is very effective in extreme cases, esp. If delusions are present. Short of this, i often tell patients that if meds alone haven't worked, try meds plus psychotherapy (safe, often helps). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
