Probably: I am careful when I prescribe Prozac (fluoxetine) for my patients, as it can be very strong, too strong for some. If you take too much, it can cause more anxiety. This is why, I never start someone on more than 10 mgs per day and then, I wait a month before I consider increasing the dose. Prozac (fluoxetine) lasts a very long time in one's system, dosage changes should be very gradual, start low, go slow. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Does Prozac (fluoxetine) help anxiety/panic as well as depression? I know it's a bit more activating than other ssris but wondering if it's still good for anxiety
Prozac (fluoxetine) anxiety: Prozac (fluoxetine) is still one of the best drugs for depression. It is also a great choice for obsessive compulsive disorder and bulimia nervous. Although it is not indicated for anxiety it may help in an indirect way but I would not take it if your only diagnosis is anxiety. Now days many have multiple diagnosis so it may be part of you treatment plan but not the first choice. Off label can be for panic ...Read more
Use alternative: Unfortunately Prozac (while an awesome drug) can interact with quite a few medications. Usually the SSRI + Wellbutrin (bupropion) combo is a great and very commonly used therapeutic option for patients suffering with depression and anxiety. There are plenty of efficacious and safer alternatives. Hope that helps! ...Read more
I was put on 50 seroquel for insomnia by my psychiatrist as well as 10 mg Prozac daily for anxiety and depression. I started these meds two days ago. My anxiety is at an all time high now bc if the strange forced sedation with the seroquel. What can?
Seroquel (quetiapine) s/e?: See your psychiatrist to assess for side effects asap. Seroquel (quetiapine) can cause a physical restlessness with pacing, "restless legs" type of agitation that is often mistaken for "anxiety." This side effect can be treated, but needs to be evaluated by your doc face- to- face. Ask your psychiatrist to assess for this side effect and if present to consider a lower dose or specific med to help with this. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

Can constipation cause malabsorption of prozac (fluoxetine)? I've been taking it for 10 months and my anxiety and depression have been fine until this week
19 female just been prescribed Prozac (fluoxetine) for depression anxiety and bulimia. On day two feeling like I have tons of energy? Is this possible? Normal?
Contact your doctor: Having "tons of energy" on day 2 of Prozac (fluoxetine) can mean different things. One is that you're experiencing relief from symptoms. Another is that Prozac (fluoxetine) is triggering a hypomanic or manic episode -- and this needs assessment pronto. Nothing is wrong with having energy, but usually Prozac (fluoxetine) does not act quite that quickly. Please call your doctor and tell him/her what's happening with you. Be well. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Anxiety and depression have gotten severe and debilitating. Will soon be subscribed 40 mg for prozac (fluoxetine). Also in therapy. Do you think this will help me?
I suffer with crippling depression and anxiety. I take Prozac & have tried lex, cit, Zoloft (sertraline) etc & none really help. No one understands. What do I do?
Get therapy also: Are you being prescribed these medications by your primary care physician, or a psychiatrist? Medications are only part of treating depression/anxiety, and psychotherapy is essential. Some psychiatrists do both, but more often people work concurrently with a psychologist or other therapist. If you haven't already, you might see a psychiatrist -- could be more helpful, esp in complex cases. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
