Will a pelvic exam hurt if I'm a virgin?

Will a pelvic exam hurt if I'm a virgin?

Not usually: The first pelvic exam is usually more scary than painful. If you have used a tampon, it should feel no more painful than that. If not, it may be a strange sensation to have any touching in that area, but concentrating on letting your muscles go loose and letting your legs fall apart is helpful. Your doctor will help explain what to expect to avoid any surprises. ...Read more

I'm aged 22 and I'm a virgin and I just wondered if its still required for me to have a Pelvic Exam?

I'm aged 22 and I'm a virgin and I just wondered if its still required for me to have a Pelvic Exam?

Recommended: I recommend that anyone sexually active have a GYN exam. If as in your case, you are not, I recommend having an initial exam somewhere around your age as good routine healthcare and so that any questions you may have can be addressed. ...Read more

I'm 19 and still a virgin can I pass the pre hire physical if I refuse a pelvic exam for that reason!

I'm 19 and still a virgin can I pass the pre hire physical if I refuse a pelvic exam for that reason!

Yikes!: I can't imagine any pre-employment physical that would require a full pelvic exam - that is one of the most invasive things I have ever heard. A pelvic exam is not even recommended anymore until age 21, so if you are 19 y/o, it would not even be part of a routine exam yet. If whoever you are planning to work for is requiring a pelvic exam as part of hire, I would seriously consider another job! ...Read more

In a few months I'm supposed to have a pelvic exam. I'm 21 years old and a virgin. What will the exam include?

Its quick: You and your doctor will chat about why you are there. If an exam is needed, It may involved just looking at the outside. Sometimes (If the hymen permits) a small speculum is inserted into the vagina. Swabs of the cervix will be taken. Your doc may need to insert a gloved finger to check the uterus and ovaries. Its very quick and you are done. Best wishes! ...Read more

Should a pelvic exam be painful? It wasn't just discomfort/tightness, it burned very badly and did not go away until it was over. I am a virgin.

Should a pelvic exam be painful? It wasn't just discomfort/tightness, it burned very badly and did not go away until it was over. I am a virgin.

Pelvic exam: I'm sorry that you had a painful exam. A pelvic exam can sometimes be painful especially in a virgin or in women who are in menopause. Usually the doctor would only do an exam in a 19 year old virgin if it was absolutely necessary based on some symptoms. A "routine" exam in a 19 y/o virgin isn't recommended. ...Read more

I'm 21, 112kg, Virgin & have irregular & very light periods - I will be virgin until marriage - do I need a pelvic exam?

Possibly: A pelvic exam and Pap smear is recommended as routine health care for women starting at 21 years old. This does not affect your virginity at all. You may not need any treatment for your irregular menses at this time, but it's still a good idea to talk with your doctor. ...Read more

I'm considering going for my first pelvic exam & Pap smear. I'm 21, a virgin, & concerned about pain. Will the speculum hurt or tear my hymen?

I'm considering going for my first pelvic exam & Pap smear. I'm 21, a virgin, & concerned about pain. Will the speculum hurt or tear my hymen?

Not to worry.: Women and girls may be judged by their happiness, their friendliness, and many other wonderful traits, but not by the condition of their hymens. It makes absolutely no difference whether a person has a big hymen, little hymen, broken hymen, unbroken hymen, etc... One need not worry about hymens when seeing her doctor, as it cannot matter in a free, modern, equitable society. ...Read more

Am a virgin 17 years old and haven't had my period for 4 months am going to my doctor tomorrow will he be taking a pelvic exam from me? Am scared

Exam: Pelvic exams scare me too! Unfortunately they do have to be done. Let your doctor know it is the first time you have done this. He or she will explain what goes on and it will be over. A pelvic exam usually consists of the doctor looking at the outside of your genitals. Then they usually do a speculum exam (the most uncomfortable part) and then they touch your cervix, ...Read more

I have lower left pelvic pain, intense vaginal cramps and bright red bleeding. I'm a virgin can I have PID? Normal pelvic exam. Douched days earlier.

See doctor: Depending on when the pain started and when your period is due there are many causes of pelvic pain. The only way to figure this out is to see your doctor for a physical exam and possible testing. If you have never had unprotected intercourse then there is no way you would have PID. ...Read more

I asked before, but im a virgin and im having bad pains in my uterus. How would a doctor handle my pelvic exam. Btw im 19?

Depends on variables: Many obgyn physicians & some primary care physicians can evaluate such issues using a combination of external exam and abdominal ultrasound. I am being taken for my cervical cancer vaccination...I am not a virgin...Will I go through a pelvic exam...? . As the doctor is a family doctor?

I am being taken for my cervical cancer vaccination...I am not a virgin...Will I go through a pelvic exam...? . As the doctor is a family doctor?

No exam needed.: The american society for cervical pathology (the people who make the rules about pap smears) don't recommend these exams until age 21; whether you're a virgin or not doesn't matter. So if an exam is what's making you anxious about getting the vaccine, don't worry; get the vaccine. Seriously. It prevents cancer. Totally worth it. You can always refuse an exam. It's your body, your rules. ...Read more

What is the recommendation for a 28 yr old virgin regarding pelvic exams? Do I need to do them? Thanks.

Standards: The common standard for this exam is starting within 6 months of initial sexual activity or age 21. There are ways to modify the exam on virginal patients, using ultrasound and special speculums. Verifying the presence and size of uterine and ovarian structures is important. There are risks of having the equipment whether you are sexually active or not. ...Read more
