How do I know if I have ringworm? The last time I went they gave me something called"nystatin and triamcinole acetonide" what else can I use

Skin scraping: The most accurate diagnosis of ringworm would be skin scrapings with microscopic exam and culture for fungal agents. However, the diagnosis is often made on the basis of history and physical exam. A better treatment than Nystatin would be 1% Clotrimazole cream applied twice daily. Diffuse cases may require oral therapy. Consider a dermatology eval if not already done. ...Read more

I think I got ringworm from kid, but not sure. Is it safe to treat as if I did? Have ketoconazole, nystatin & triamcinolone actonide, which one best?

I think I got ringworm from kid, but not sure. Is it safe to treat as if I did? Have ketoconazole, nystatin & triamcinolone actonide, which one best?

Ringworm: The source of ringworm fungus is generally irrelevant to its treatment. The location on the skin is very relevant. If it is on the scalp, it requires oral medication. Elsewhere, topical katoconazole is one of a number of effective medications. Triamcinolone does not have anti fungal properties and will not cure the infection. ...Read more

My 7 month old has ring worm on her thumbs and under her bottom lip should I use nystatin to treat it?

My 7 month old has ring worm on her thumbs and under her bottom lip should I use nystatin to treat it?

Probably not: Unfortunately Nystatin has lost it's effectiveness against most of the fungi that cause ringworm and we've had to resort to more potent topicals, and/or oral meds. With a 7 month old it is crucial that you first arrive at the correct diagnosis. Why are you sure it's ringworm? If it is, Clotrimazole might work but shouldn't be used on babies for more than 3 days. See your pediatrician. ...Read more
