Naproxen vs aspirin for neck pain. Which one is better?

Naproxen: Different people respond better to one anti-inflammatory over another. Ibuprofen and Naproxen are common and some people often find one more effective than the other. Aspirin, while also an nsaid, has an increased risk of bleeding as compared with the others, and at higher doses may be more likely to lead to stomach issues. ...Read more

Which is better for neck pain relief after a car accident - naproxen or hydrocodone?

Which is better for neck pain relief after a car accident - naproxen or hydrocodone?

Both can help: These medications are in 2 different classes. Naproxen is an NSAID and hydrocodone is an opioid and probably also has tylenol. If you don't have major kidney disease or stomach ulcers, Naproxen should be the safer of the 2. If inadequate, hydrocodone can be added until no longer needed. Use all meds as directed and carefully note all sources of acetaminophen/tylenol-3000mg/day max! ...Read more

Have neck pain for 16 days. Doctor gave me naprosyn (naproxen) but hasn't helped pain. Would a Medrol dose pack help or does it have same effect as naprosyn (naproxen)?

Have neck pain for 16 days. Doctor gave me naprosyn (naproxen) but hasn't helped pain. Would a Medrol dose pack help or does it have same effect as naprosyn (naproxen)?

Different effect: A Medrol (methylprednisolone) dose pack is a steroid, that's a very potent anti-inflammatory. If naprosyn's not working, you need to find the cause of the problem. Best is to see an osteopathic physician, who can do a full osteopathic examination of your neck and spine, and provide treatment of your neck to reduce pain. She s/he will diagnose, and order additional tests and labs as needed. ...Read more

Really bad neck and back pain from a few nights of poor sleep. I have been taking one Aleve (naproxen) every 12 hrs past 2 days but still bad. Double dose?

Not unreasonable: I will often recommend an NSAID "burst", with aleve (naproxen) taken twice daily for a week or 10 days, sometimes at twice the otc dose. This is not a good idea if you have sensitivity to the medication, kidney issues, or so forth, but can be a safe and inexpensive way to relieve residual inflammation. If symptoms persist after the burst, however, a more in depth evaluation is often required. ...Read more

Took Aleve, (naproxen) My Heart Started Racing, The Side Of My Neck Felt Weird And It Came Back Just my Neck Thing Then I Started To Get Lightheaded, Not As Bad n?

Possible allergy: While this isn't a typical allergic reaction, it still falls within the possible symptoms that one might get. If this persists you should see a doctor. If you notice any tongue or lip swelling or have any issues breathing seek help immediately. I would be careful taking Aleve (naproxen) again, until you have a better sense about what is going on. Best of luck. ...Read more

Went to hospital to find out had pulled muscle in neck. Can't move at all, in so much pain, took naproxen and muscle relaxer but did nothing?

Follow up: Typically after being seen in the ER, patients are given an appointment to see a specialist in followup. If the pain persists, an MRI will give much more information and what was thought to be a simple " muscle pull" can sometimes turn out to be a cervical disc herniation. Keep your follow up appointment. ...Read more

Meloxicam: Although Meloxicam (Mobic) is being marketed as a COX-2 inhibitor, it is classified in the Physician's Desk Reference (PDR) as a nonselective nonsteroidal analgesic because it has higher COX-1 inhibitory effects than the other COX-2 inhibitors. Nevertheless, Meloxicam is more potent against COX-2 and is more favorable to the GI system than other nonselective NSAIDs. Ask your PCP for more info. ...Read more
