I suffered pprom at 16 weeks in my twin gestation and lost my boys at 25 weeks. In my next pregnancy should my cervix be stitched/sewn?

I suffered pprom at 16 weeks in my twin gestation and lost my boys at 25 weeks. In my next pregnancy should my cervix be stitched/sewn?

Not necessarily.: It depends on your other obstetrical outcomes too; your history does not mean you have an incompetent cervix that merits cervical cerclage placement. I am sorry you had such a bad outcome with your previous pregnancy, however if you have a singleton pregnancy next time your risk should be back at baseline (11-12% for the U.S.). Take Folic Acid 1-5 mg daily from now on to prevent sptd. ...Read more

I had my scan yesterday at 14 weeks at my ob & it showed marginal placenta previa- will i bleed as my uterus stretches if my placenta is to migrate up?

No.: The placenta does not necessarily "move" a much as the uterus simply grows. Usually for something like this, a follow up scan is done in the third trimester to see if the previa has resolved. The majority do. ...Read more

At my last ultrasound, my baby's head measured 33cm, belly was 34cm, and femur was 7.9cm. How much does my baby weigh? I was 37 1/2 weeks at the time.

At my last ultrasound, my baby's head measured 33cm, belly was 34cm, and femur was 7.9cm. How much does my baby weigh? I was 37 1/2 weeks at the time.

Ask your doctor: The ultrasound machine will have generated an estimated fetal weight based on these measurements. Your doctor should have that report. That said, this is typically quite inaccurate as it is only within +/- a pound. So a "6 pd" baby on ultrasound can weigh anywhere from 5-7 pounds at birth! ...Read more

When is the soonest can I have my cervical cerclage? I'm 4-5 weeks, my cervix opened last year around 12wks and my baby basically fell out :(

After 12 weeks: It is recommended that a cerclage not be placed until after the first trimester. Most first trimester losses are because of a serious fetal abnormality and you don't want to sew an abnormal baby in. Good luck. ...Read more

My 1st pregnancy at 28 weeks i was effaced 90% 3/4 dilated put on bed rest. With this 2nd pregnancy will i be dilated faster and have the baby early?

Preterm birth: No you won't dilate faster with another pregnancy. If you delivered prematurely, you most likely will be counseled that use of a Progesterone injection given weekly will decrease your risk of another premature delivery. Bed rest doesn't prevent a premature delivery. ...Read more

ASK YOUR OB!!!!: You are not suppoose to induce or encourage labor at 37 weeks unless something is wrong because while that is considered term, the lungs are not always mature at 37 weeks, if you go into labor your self or your water breaks that is fine, if you want to stimulate contractions you should wait at least another week and call your OB for recs, i tell my pts certain things but you need to ask your ob. ...Read more

At 20 weeks they did a ultrasound and the measurements was ok... Now at 31 weeks my belly is really small.. My baby moves alot.. Why so small?

At 20 weeks they did a ultrasound and the measurements was ok... Now at 31 weeks my belly is really small.. My baby moves alot.. Why so small?

Baby growth?: If you are saying your belly seems small compared to others at 31 weeks, then i would reassure you & say that appearances vary greatly at this point in pregnancy, depending on body shapes & sizes. Do not compare yourself to others. If you are saying that the baby is measuring small on a repeat ultrasound, there are numerous reasons for growth issues & i would suggest discuss this with your doctor. ...Read more

Can i hear my babys heartbeat and see it at my next appt december 12 im 6 weeks now ??

Just developing: At this point, your baby’s heart is too small to generate enough sound waves to be audible, even when amplified by the use of medical equipment. By 12 weeks into pregnancy, the doppler should consistently and audibly detect your baby’s heartbeat, allowing you to hear it sooner than you otherwise would. ...Read more

Got my AFP and amniocentesis back all negative. I am 18.5 weeks baby measuring 16. Doc said baby looked fine and will contine to monitor me. Normal?

Yes: Sounds like ultrasound and your original due date are off by, at most, 12 days? This can be due to standard deviation of the ultrasound, or could have been a flaw with the original dating ultrasound. If you are on the shorter side, it could be genetic, that is, you baby may not be big in-utero because you and your husband aren't big people either. Your doc can also tell you why maybe difference. ...Read more

Abbreviations: I think you’re saying there was no heart beat a sonogram that measures 6 weeks when you thought that you were really 9 weeks. Clarify the findings with your doctor. Most likely they either confirmed a miscarriage or suggested that it might be too early to see a baby and suggested you return in a week to repeat the sonogram.
