Besides helping with lack of orgasm what are other benefits of adding Buspar (buspirone) to my Lexapro 10 for my severe depression/anxiety/phobias? Pls elaborate
I have added in: Wellbutrin for sexual side effects of ssri's - but i haven't used Buspar (buspirone) for that reason. I do think that Buspar (buspirone) is an excellent medication- especially when used as an adjunct. It works well for anxiety related disorders. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Probably: I am careful when i prescribe Prozac (fluoxetine) for my patients, as it can be very strong, too strong for some. If you take too much, it can cause more anxiety. This is why, i never start someone on more than 10 mgs per day and then, i wait a month before i consider increasing the dose. Prozac (fluoxetine) lasts a very long time in one's system, dosage changes should be very gradual, start low, go slow. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No luck with lexapro, is Effexor (venlafaxine) a good second choice for treating depression and anxiety in a 22 year old in good health otherwise?
Many possibilities: There are many antidepressants from which to choose. Recent studies suggest that just because 1st drug from a family doesn't work doesn't mean that you need to switch drug families. Also, we can't say a drug didn't work unless you couldn't tolerate the highest dose. Lexapro (escitalopram) is a member of ssri family of which there are many. Talk to your doc about all your options (sometimes dictated by insurance). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Discuss w/ OBGYN,etc: Less is best if you are breastfeeding and if one works it may be better than a mix, but ask your pediatrician and OBGYN and psychiatrist if you have one. Please consider good psychotherapy since it's a big help to make these months easier - new mother support is very important! It might even make drugs less needed. Best wishes! ...Read more
Was prescribed Lexapro (escitalopram) 10, so afraid to take antidepressants. Severe depression/anxiety.Please advise on this drug the good and bad.Iknoweveryonediff?
The good: It works for both depression and generalized anxiety, has few drug-drug interactions and a mild side effect profile compared with some others. It works as well as any of the other antidepressants. The down side, is a mild chance of tiredness or insomnia (managed by correctly timing the dose), some risk like most of delayed orgasm, mild hand tremor, upset stomach. Overall very well tolerated. ...Read more
Good day. I am male, 26 years old.My problems are irritability, low self-confidence, depression, apathy, shyness or social phobia, social anxiety.
Yes and No: Although anxiety and depression commonly co-occur, depression will only lead to social phobia if the individual has a predisposition to develop social phobia to begin with (genetics, psychological vulnerability, shyness as a trait, etc). The best evidence for depression and anxiety is generalized anxiety disorder, which shares more in common with depression than any other anxiety disorder. ...Read more
Yes: There are two relatively common things that can happen. Any medication like Lexapro (escitalopram) ( a serotonin antidepressant) may cause a couple of days of increased insomnia, anxiety and agitation. As you suggested, less often, Lexapro (escitalopram) can "trigger" a mood cycle into mania or mixed state (agitated depression). ...Read more
If Lexapro helped me with my social anxiety and depression, could Paxil (paroxetine) help me more?
Possibly: Lexapro and Paxil (paroxetine) are both effective for depression and anxiety. Some people do not tolerate side effects of one or another. Others don't respond to adequate trial of maximum doses. Then a switch is indicated. Before switching, your doctor should adjust the dose for a while to check for better effect and diminished side effects. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
My husband has high BP anxiety/depression and was put on lexapro (escitalopram). On day 6 and his BP is 104/61 p118. Is this safe. He's 39yrs old?
Check it again: You have not listed what his blood pressure medication is. It's possible that there is a drug drug interaction between his antidepressant and his antihypertensive medication. The blood pressures low but not dangerously low and the pulse is elevated. That would indicate that either the blood pressure medication is too high or that he is dehydrated. If he gets lightheaded or dizzy or develops any other symptoms he may need to be seen quickly. Most likely however his blood pressure will go back up provided that he pushes fluids tonight. Contact the prescribing doctor tomorrow and find outif he wishes anything else to be done about it. Best wishes. ...Read more

I am being prescribed Lexapro, wellbutrin and elavil for depression and anxiety. Is this combo safe?
Drug Interactions: Elavil (amitriptyline) + Wellbutrin (bupropion) ^ es seizure risk. Escitalopram +amitriptyline ^'es risk of serotonin syndrome. Wellbutrin + Lexapro ^es seizure risk. I am assuming that the Elavil is added in for insomnia or pain control and not for depression/ anxiety. This does not mean that these drugs can't be used together but there are possible drug interactions. D/W your physician. ...Read more
