8 weeks 5 days pregnant, very painful dental abscess, what shall I do and what are the risks to my baby? Are there any treatments with zero risk?

Risk: I do not know of any interventive treatment with no risks. In your situation obviously if you had treatment prior to conception that would have been ideal. I would suggest consulting with an endodontist for treatment but present to your obstetrician for a letter of clearance for treatment. Ideally interventive treatment is preferred after the first trimester and before the third trimester. ...Read more

I'm 7 months pregnant and have had a dental fistula for about 4 weeks. Will treating/ not treating it harm my baby? Should i wait until after birth?

Treat now: Please see a dentist asap. This tooth will very likely need a root canal or extraction. It is safe to have this done during your pregnancy, but your dentist will decide that. Please don't delay seeing a dentist. ...Read more

My kid painted on paper,I touchd paper wen dry & accidentally touchd my tongue funny taste.quickly rinsd my mouth thoroughly.7wk Pregnant.Harm baby?

Wouldn't think so: What you describe does not bring any concerns to mind. The type of paints kids have access to are non toxic & for something to affect baby the material would need to achieve a detectable level in your blood & be toxic. From your description I can't see that happening. ...Read more

Can tooth abcess cause premature labor? I have a tooth that needs a root canal but they won't do it until baby is born will it harm? I'm 28 weeks

Yes: But more info is needed... Why won't your dentist treat you? Because of your pregnancy? You are better off treating it now than taking the risk of infection and severe pain. Have your dentist refer you to an endodontic specialist and have him/her coordinate with your obgyn. Many times this can be completed in one visit. All the best.. ...Read more

Will.Having an abcess under my arm harm my baby in.The.Womb im 24 weeks pregnant?

Unlikely: An abscess is a localized problem, where the germs are contained within the rhine or shell like outer lining of the infection. To effect baby, germs must enter & travel in the blood, which is not happening. The doc can drain the abscess &/or treat with antibiotics that will be fetus friendly. ...Read more

Flu vaccine: Influenza can be dangerous for pregnant women, especially later in pregnancy, because as the baby gets bigger, your lungs can't expand as well. It is very important for pregnant women to get their flu vaccine as early in the season as possible. If you do get symptoms of the flu (fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat) you should see your doctor immediately for possible antiviral treatment. ...Read more

Daughter has hand foot & mouth blisters in mouth what can I do to make her more comfortable? Also i'm 7 months pregnant will it harm my unborn baby?

Mouth blisters: Hand foot and mouth disease is caused by a virus, and usually goes away in 7-10 days. The pain from mouth blisters can be helped by staying away from spicy and acidic foods and drinks (maintaining a bland diet). Check with your dentist or medical doctor about pain meds (tylenol (acetaminophen) or advil). Orabase ointment can be applied to the blisters before meals. It is non-prescription and sticks to the mouth. ...Read more
