Ask your surgeon: Most packs will not disintegrate and have to be removed or they will fall out on their own. I don't understand at all why you would have packing for polyp surgery. This is usually done for infections or to stop bleeding. ...Read more

What to do if I had a ranula (tongue cyst) surgically removed last week (pics). now 5 more are back! do I have a disease?

No!: No, there are a couple of possibilities. Sometimes when a ranula or cyst is removed, an adjacent salivary gland duct is traumatized and obstructed by the surgery in the adjacent area. In that case, it may not drain properly; the gland produces saliva and you will form a new cyst in the location of the previous surgery. It is unpredictable and hard to avoid, but is a possibility . ...Read more

Edward's works: The edward's procedure or supercrestal fiberotomy was described in 1970 and assists in retaining problematic, rotated teeth. This small procedure is usually only accomplished for 1 or 2 teeth. The need, the process, and the risk/benefits should be discussed with your orthodontic and periodontal specialist. ...Read more

IF YOU ARE DIABETIC: doubt the infection in the ingrown toenail will cause systemic infection,or sepsis, or septicemia. unless you are diabetic or if you have a severe peripheral vascular disease, and you end up with a bad case of ischemia or gangrene. either way why you want to wait until it becomes a life threatening infection, start soaking your foot, trim your nail well, see a doctor, take antibiotic,etc... ...Read more

I have an 11cm complex cyst on my kidney I see a neurologist in a few weeks but wondering if they will likely want to remove it (because if the size?

Kidney cyst: It sounds like you will be seeing a nephrologist in a few weeks and that's a good idea. I'd expect to have the complex cyst removed to rule out the possibility of it's being malignant which can happen on occasion. ...Read more

I have a cyst on my neck for years it was small and grew over time will I need to have it removed through surgery?

I have a cyst on my neck for years it was small and grew over time will I need to have it removed through surgery?

Get it checked: If it is a sebaceous cyst or a lipoma, if you want it gone, then you have to have it removed surgically. Depending on where it is and how big it is, often it can just be done in the doctor's office. You need to have it checked by a doc to know for sure that it is benign (not cancer) and to tell you what you need to do to get rid of it. ...Read more

Any : Any surgical excision of a mole or any other facial lesion will always leave a scar. Bigger lesions will leave bigger scars. Scars may be favorable or unfavorable. Favorable scars have more natural color, are flat and blend in with the lines of the face. Unfavorable scars may be raised, irregular, or run against the natural lines of one's face. Plastic surgeons are uniquely qualified to asses a patient's face when removing cancer or moles and provide the most "favorable" scar possible. ...Read more

Talk to surgeon: This procedure can be done under regional anesthesia, if they do not do it laproscopically. If they do use this technique then a regional anesthesia will not be sufficient. You need to make sure you have discussed your wishes and concerns with the surgeon and anesthesiologist. Good luck. ...Read more

Do you think my mom should have another surgery she is 95 years old the first surgery was a colon and they found a leak now they want to do a surgery ?

Not our decision: None of us can give you this answer. That would be inappropriate. If you were my patient sitting here I may explain what I would want for my own mother, but this difficult decision is one for your family to make. I believe strongly, as I stated earlier today, that you have the right to choose palliative care and not have to put her through any more surgery if she does not want it. ...Read more
