Will Lexapro effect my testosterone levels or metabolism? I am currently on Lexapro for anxiety and am wanting to lose weight and after that start gaining muscle. The only problem is I have heard that Lexapro can cause people to gain weight and can lower

Lexapro (escitalopram): Lexapro (escitalopram) should not effect your testosterone level. However, Lexapro (escitalopram) is in the family of medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. These medication can sometimes effect sexual function via the chemical nicotine synthetase which is found in the body.
Some people do gain weight when on selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Lexapro (escitalopram) is fairly weight neutral which means that although you could experience weight gain, that most people don't tend to gain or lose a lot of weight on it. Lexapro (escitalopram) use will not prevent you from gaining muscle mass. If you are concerned about body fat and muscle mass, the more important issues are your diet/nutrition, physical activity, adequate hydration and your degree of committment to a healthy life style, . The great thing is, that if you take good care of yourself it might help the condition you are using Lexapro (escitalopram) for. Regular sleep, physical activity, healthy food and making your health and wellbeing a priorty are all things that would positively impact depression, anxiety and a host of other conditions. ...Read more

Spot fat loss does: Not occur naturally. By losing weight in general some will probably be abdominal fat. But, we don't get to choose what area of body fat is lost from. Eat healthy & be physically active. Calories burned must > those consumed. Tighten ab's: crunches, reverse crunches, exercise ball crunches, pelvic thrusts, lying leg raises, side bridge & “bicycling” exercise on back. Do regular aerobic exercise. ...Read more

I have been losing a lot of weight recently and it seems like I lose most of my weight in the middle of the night. I have been losing weight since I think Tuesday. I took a lexapro for the first time about 3and a half weeks ago and I can't figure out why

Weight loss at night: "Weight" loss happens to everyone at night. It's why people weigh in the morning after urinating. If this is only been recent it might be due to Lexapro (escitalopram), (escitalopram) but it's not it's the first time I've heard of this. Another possibility, whatever is causing rapid weight loss may also have caused anxiety or depression being treated with Lexapro (escitalopram). Get a 2nd opinion. Make sure nothing else is there. ...Read more

I am taking 20mgs lexapro (escitalopram). Will this make losing weight more difficult and my weight training less effective per workout?

Carb cravings: Escitalopram (Lexapro) increase available serotonin in the brain - this can cause an increase in both hunger and cravings for carbohydrates. In addition, antidepressant SSRI's like escitalopram can adversely influence lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, leading to weight gain. On the flip side, people who are anxiety and depression eaters may experience decrease appetite on meds, and lose weight. ...Read more

Intense abdom. Pain, frequent sudden urge yellow diarrhea, took lexapro, (escitalopram) been 3 months, losing weight, what could this be? Please help?

Lexapro (escitalopram): Lexapro (escitalopram) can cause diarrhea, but generally tapers off within the first couple of weeks if it's going to. Been taking Lexapro (escitalopram) for five years. Once I stop how long does it take for the drug to leave the system?

Not that simple: Assuming you haven't developed any liver or kidney disease in the last 5 years, the drug will be eliminated at the same rate whether you've taken it for 5 years or 5 days. The difference is that your brain may have accommodated to the drug in ways that are not dose-dependent. If so, how long the drug EFFECT will wear off in your case can't be predicted or measured in any practical way. ...Read more
