30 hours - yikes !: Are your hyped up? If so, try something to de-stress like deep breathing exercises. Excessive doses of anti histamines will cause you increased risk for hypertension, tachycardia, abnormal irregular heart beat and render you completely brain dead for hours upon awakening. Not recommended: It's always best to use medications as prescribed. Xanax (alprazolam) is addicting. So is Percocet (oxycodone + acetaminophen). Both can also cause confusion & increase risk of falls. When used together, risk increases dramatically. So does death rate. Talk to your Family Doc about your insomnia. Consider OTC options. I fell at work and bruised my ribs i haven't really been able to get a good nights sleep is there a certain way I should be sleeping or just cowboyup?
Tough situation!: Bruised and/or broken ribs are painful. It seems like no position is comfortable for sleeping. You might try sleeping in a recliner if you have one. I've even had patients who found it most comfortable to sit at a table and lean forward on pillows to sleep. An anti-inflammatory medication may help if you can take one without adverse symptoms. I'm unable to get a good nights sleep and when I wake up, the first thing i have to do is throw up. Could this be caused by sinus drainage?
Very much so: If you already notice during the day you have significant sinus symptoms of congestion, difficult with nasal breathing, post nasal drip. When you sleep your post nasal drip may "pool" significantly in the back of the throat so that when you arise in the AM it stimulates your gag reflex.
