-R used interchangeably. They refer 2 injuries 2 mucles & ligaments. 3 degrees: 1=tweaked or hurts but no harm no foul, 2=damage 2 the structure with some bleeding & prolonged pain, but with ice, time , rest,& activity modification they heal over a few weeks,3=a complete disruption such as an ACL tear. Knee pain and goes backwards when I walk. Had meniscus tears since 3 years ago and had pain since. Have a knee brace and crutches already, should I use them or Should I go to hospital? Is it anything to worry about. Swelling and pain.
Meniscus tears: This doesn't sound like an emergency that would require you to go to the hospital. It would be reasonable to use the knee brace and/or crutches to stabilize the knee for now, and make an appointment to see your orthopedist. With your prior history of knee surgery, you may have meniscus tears again. It also sounds like your knee is hyperextending, suggesting ligamentous laxity. ...Read more
I had a trimalleolar ankle fracture and am 6 weeks post operation. Will i be able to walk normally after some time or will i limp?
A little hard work: With surgical repair of a trimalleilar fracture you should be able to walk without a limp within 3-4 months. Full recover is reached faster with physical therapy. The faster you can regain full range of motion and rebuild strength the faster you'll get there. Good luck with your rehab. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

I have an acl tear and meniscus tear I'm waiting to see a doctor after being put in a brace my ankle is swelling should I be worried?
Knee injuries: If the knee injury is recent (within 2 weeks), the ankle swelling is likely the result of the injury to the lower extremity itself. This is especially true if you are not elevating the extremity regularly. Gravity will pull the fluid into the foot/ankle over time. 2-3 weeks after injury, the swelling should start to improve, but may take longer of you remain on your feet most of the day ...Read more
I am in an air cast for an ankle sprain. All its doing is causing swelling and pain. Could I juat wear and ankle brace instead?
Possibly: If it is just an ankle sprain, and definitely not a fracture immobilization is not required definitively. The main purpose would be to provide support and aid in your function. So if the air cast is not helping, you could certainly try it without anything or go to a soft brace. Check with your doctor first as I don't know the specifics of the injury, but you don't have to immobilize a sprain. ...Read more
Should have healed: The natural history of low back pain is that it gets better within a month or so. If it hasn't please see your doctor, or a specialist in physical medicine (physiatrist), osteopathic physician who does manipulation or a trusted chiropractor. Core and abdominal strengthening programs are very helpful. Make sure your seating and work ergonomics are good, and eat an anti-inflammatory diet. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I twisted my ankle a week ago. The swelling and bruising has not gotten better. Should I get an xray?
Does a torn ACL always have swelling? Can a torn ACL hurt to twist you knee right to left when standing? I have a lot of instability in the knee.
Usually yes, and yes: Initially, a torn acl usually results in a knee effusion (swelling), but after a few days the swelling can go away. Pain/shifting with twisting activities (even while standing) are one symptom of a torn acl. Torn meniscus tissue or cartilage which can occur along with an acl tear can also cause similar symptoms or the sensation of instability. It does sound like it's time to get your knee checked. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
