Calorie restriction: Limit calorie intake to 1200-1500/day. You must count the calories of everything that goes in your mouth. Avoid carbohydrates. Walk 30 minutes per day at least 5 days per week. Stay hydrated and take a multivitamin daily. Guaranteed to work if you do this, but its a lot easier said than done. If you have the mindset you will do anything it takes to get the weight off, you will do it! Good luck!
Obesity ; Surgery: Anatomy. Abdominal pressure on the wound. To avoid the wound opening up during healing. For oxygen to get to the injured tissue to heal best. I am not sure why you would not automatically understand this. And, for that reason I am happy you reached out to us here on health tap.
Aerobic Exercise: Weight loss is primarily related to reducing caloric intake and increasing aerobic activity, in that order of importance. Neither of those should be affected by the presence of a ventral hernia. While building muscle mass may improve one's metabolic rate, this needs to be balanced by the effect that heavy lifting has on the hernia. Have you considered hernia repair?See 1 more doctor answer
I just had my umbilical hernia operated I have not eatten from23 days but I have not lose any weight please tell me how I can lose weight?
Losing weight: To lose weight, get ur resting metabolism rate done (weight loss centers do this). This determines the total number of calories you need to lose 1-2lbs/week. Decreasing 500cal/day will give you a 1lb wt loss in 1wk; drink water (1/2 your body weight), eat small meals about 150-200cal 2-4x/ (depending on your metabolism rate) and 500cal/meal at night: lean protein/veggies; avoid carbs, .See 1 more doctor answer
My umilical hernia repaired. 7 months ago. Now I m very fat what are risk? How to lose weight my weight is 84 kg. And my age 20 years old. .
Need 2 calculate BMI: Your body mass index (bmi) calculation may be helpful in determining if you're too heavy (>25), too thin (<18), or just right (19-25). Obesity is defined as bmi >30. There are of course a lot of other consideration when figuring out what your ideal weight should be: activity, illness, age, plans for surgery, etc. It's good you're thinking "healthy" here...Now do some homework to plan strategy.See 1 more doctor answer
Can Hiatal Hernia resolve on own? If I lose weight (5'3) and 150 lbs, and if I eat better? I cant stand the pressure it gives me.
The hernia: Is actually a defect through which a portion of your stomach protrudes through an opening in your diaphragm causing heartburn or gastric distress. I agree that weight loss is a smart idea to relieve symptoms and the use of acid inhibitors like Pepcid, (famotidine) Zegerid or Prilosec will help.
I am 57 yo had umbilical hernia, surgery want to start working out to lose weight how long should I wait have not workout in over 20 yrs?
6 weeks: The surgeon that performed the hernia repair should provide individual recommendations for returning to activity after surgery. In our practice, we recommend 6 weeks of 10 lb weight lifting limitations with a gradual return to increased activity afterward. Especially after 20 years, you need to use caution when restarting an exercise program and would benefit from working with a licensed trainer.
How long can tissue be caught in a hernia before it becomes dead tissue, the doctor I saw said he wouldn't do the surgery til I lose weight?
No set time.: Whether tissue in a hernia dies or not is dependent on several variables. The biggest risk factor for strangulation (dead tissue) is whether it is incarcerated (stuck) in the hernia or not. If it is reducible or can be pushed back in, then the risk of dying is very low. Another big factor is the size of the hernia. Actually the bigger the hole, the lower the risk of the tissue dying.See 1 more doctor answer
Are hernias & weight loss related? My boss had one after gastric bypass. I am doing ww to lose weight. I have a hiatal hernia too. Had lost a lot b4.
Anatomy: I do not get the question and am trying to understand it from your point of view. Being obese or significantly over weight increases the likelihood of all kinds of hernias. But, a hiatal hernia is very different than an umbilical or abdominal wall hernia. I see no connection between any kind of hernia and the ability to lose weight.See 1 more doctor answer
I have a belly button hernia. My stomach feels and looks like I swallowed a watermelon. I can't lose weight and alot of stomach pain. What should I do?
Hernia Repair: If you have an umbilical (Belly Button) hernia and you're having pain, you should have surgery to repair the problem. Following surgery and healing, you'll be able to exercise without pain or risk of hernia incarceration (intestines getting "stuck" in the hernia). The combination of diet modification and exercise will allow you to lose weight. Liposuction after achieving goal weight if necessary.
I've started exercising for 30 mins morning + 30 mins evening daily after being diagnosed with hiatel hernia to loose weight. Is this routine harmful?
A exercise program: Is best followed by your doc so that it is a good fit for you. W/out knowing your body weight and other medical data one cannot determine if this is a good program for you specifically. In general, it sounds good. Peace and good health. Low carb and higher protein works well for some. As your doc about it. Bon Chance!
Hernia surgery obese: Diabetes does complicated surgical procedures. It affects wound healing, ability to fight off infection, and is often linked to other medical problems like heart disease that can increase the risk of operations. Prior to any elective surgery, the blood sugars should be under control. A parallel issue is the hernia surgery, where we see a higher recurrence rate across the board in obese patients.See 2 more doctor answers
Hi doc male with 220 lbs 6ft height have insicional hernia below belly button from 5yrs, not painful. What exercise should I take to loose weight :-)?
Doesn't matter: Your should limit calorie intake to 1200-1500/ day, stay hydrated, take a multivitamin, and do any exercise for at least 30' for at least 5 days per week. When in your target weight range, increase calories by 300 per say until weight is stable. Weigh yourself monthly, not daily or weekly. See a general surgeon for a consultation about your hernia to find out more about that. Good luck!
