Itchy smooth pink bump on scalp. Hair falling out around it in dime size area. What is it? Will hair grow back? I do hav body acne, could be related?
Usually not: Scars occur between the follicles and can be of varying widths. If the scar is quite wide, sometimes it makes sense to cut out the scar and bring the scalp together to narrow the new scar so that the gap between the hairs is not as great. Unfortunately, if the scalp is pulled too tightly, tension can kill the hair follicles at the edge of the incision and result in a wide hairless area again. ...Read more

How do I get rid of ringworm scars? I've been having this scar on my scalp for 4 years and my hair never grew back
Get scar revision: If a scar on the scalp shows no signs of hair regrowth within 4-6 months, it is unlikely that hair will ever regrow. Therefore you will need either a scar revision (sometimes the bald spot can be cut out) or hair grafts. There are surgeons who specialize in hair issues. Ask your doctor for a referral, or if you don't have one, call the local county medical society. ...Read more

From: From your description, you may have ringworm of the scalp which is actually caused by a fungus, not a worm. Of course, without examining you and sending cultures, I cannot tell for sure what it is. A fungal infection of the scalp is more difficult to treat than fungal infections elsewhere. Treatment usually includes 1-2 months of a prescription oral medication. You should give your doctor a call and have them take a look at it. They will hopefully be able to tell exactly what it is so you can get the proper treatment. Good luck! ...Read more
