Usually not: Scars occur between the follicles and can be of varying widths. If the scar is quite wide, sometimes it makes sense to cut out the scar and bring the scalp together to narrow the new scar so that the gap between the hairs is not as great. Unfortunately, if the scalp is pulled too tightly, tension can kill the hair follicles at the edge of the incision and result in a wide hairless area again. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers
I cut a part of the skin on my head due to which i lost hair in that part. Will any hair grow back in that area?
Not on scars: Hi. Was the area shaved for stitches? Hair follicles don't grow out of scar tissue, but if the scar is narrow, and the surrounding skin is making hair normally, when it grows back, the scar may be barely noticeable. Your "topic tags" mention baldness and alopecia...those don't grow back normally! Good luck! ...Read more
Black spots the size of a #2 pencil eraser, on scalp not from rogaine (minoxidil)? What's it from? Hair loss also toward the back of the scalp. What can it be?
Fungal infection.: There is a form of fungal infection known as black dot tinea due to the fact that the broken hair at the site of the skin reveals a "black dot". Additionally fungal infection can definitely cause hair loss and progress rapidly if left untreated. Start using an over the counter shampoo containing selenium sulfide, but get to an md to evaluate your scalp and possibly perform a scraping for fungus. ...Read more

Why does the hair on the left side of my face grow at a faster rate than the hair on the right side?
Hair growth: Depends. This is probably very normal. Perhaps you shave closer on the right side than you do on the left due to the way you hold the razor or whether you are right handed or left handed. ...Read more
6-8 of the hair follicles on the base of my penis in the pubic hair region have raised a bit and turned darkish-gray or black? Genital warts?
Possible cysts: Hard to say without more history and seeing photos of these lesions, but they could be due to clogged hair follicles - black color could be due to oxidation or old blood. I cannot rule out possibility that these are genital warts or something else. Go see your clinician asap for an exam, tests if needed, and appropriate management. Take Care. ...Read more
Why to men lose hair on the top before the sides of the head? Are the follicles actually different?
Would using hair growth treatment on a cyst on your head help to regrow the small amount of hair lost from the cyst?
Perhaps: If the cyst ruptured and healed leaving scar tissue instead of normal scalp tissue i doubt it as the scar tissue will not have hair follicle present to grow new hair. If this is the case, it may need to be cut out (excised) completely and sutured together to leave normal tissue that has hair follicles to grow. ...Read more
Can herpes vesicles have hair growing out the middle of them? Or would the hair fall away where the bumps were growing?
Let me explain: If the lesion was in a hair-bearing area, folliculitis probably is statistically more likely than herpes. Folliculitis (basically, a pimple) tends to deeper in the skin, like most pimples, whereas herpes lesions are quite superficial, sort of sitting "on" rather than "in" the skin. ...Read more
What is the difference in appearance of scalp ringworm and alopecia? Can scalp ringworm appear like a normal unirriated bald patch on the scalp?
Sometimes difficult-: It can sometimes be difficult to differentiate between the two. Indeed, sometimes it can look like an unirritated bald spot. Usually you can see some scaly/crusty areas to the skin. If there is a lot of uncertainty and you really want a "for sure" answer, see a dermatologist who can do scrapings or even a biopsy to determine what is going on. ...Read more

How to get rid of frog fugus hair in the head and face? Soft hair is growing from the places that was touched with frog urine.
Oh : Oh my. I think I am stumped. There are studies in ireland regarding the skin secretions of the waxy monkey frog and the giant firebellied toad and angiogenesis ( growth of new blood vessels). I am familiar with bufotoxin since one of our dogs had a run in with a bufo toad (not in the us). I have heard tales about toads causing warts if handled. But, I have never heard of frog urine causing growth of fine hair on the face. If you don't mind me asking, why did you have frog urine on your face? Maybe another doctor will respond to your question who is familiar with this. In the mean time, I am left wondering if this is a myth and that possibly you grew more aware of pre-existing hair growth after application of frog urine? I am sorry that i can't be more help. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
