My doctor tells me I am animic again. Have had all major tests. I am worried this will effect my heart. I eat red meat not to many veggies. Concerned.

No relation: Red meat diet and anemia are not a risk factors for heart problems. If you already have heart problems, like coronary artery disease, anemia could increase the symptoms and worse the condition by decreasing o2 transport capacity and increasing the demand of o2. Too much red meat suggested as risk factor for colon cancer. Try to eat mire fish and more veggies. Continue your doctor tx for anemia. ...Read more

Blood test said I had high uric acid. I was told come back after 3 months for blood test (no alcohol or red meat). Will one night out affect it much?

Sorry: Once a gout attack is triggered, it is difficult to stop. High uric acid levels do not correlate perfectly with risk of experiencing a gouty joint. If a night out triggers gout, most patients would agree that it was not worth it. However, if it does not, most patients will agree that it was worth it. ...Read more

My blood test showed anemia but after 6mths daily iron tablets no change. I regularly eat red meat, green veg etc & on the pill. What could cause this?

Need more info: What was your hemoglobin at the beginning and end of six months? How much iron did you take? Could it be that you are losing blood in the stomach or intestine? Could it be that your anemia is not due to iron deficiency? Could you have thalassemia trait that looks like iron deficiency? It would be prudent to discuss all of this with your doctor. ...Read more

Black tea/ cholester: i usually tell people just to have water ( 8 to 16 oz) so they are hydrated before a cholesterol exam, There seems to be some mild evidence that chronic intake of green/black tea can lower LDL cholesterol after 12 weeks ,so there may be a small impact , with resulting lower cholesterol. http://www.webmd.com/cholesterol-management/news/20030623/tea-extract-can-lower-cholesterol ...Read more

Cholesterol: The levels you report are basically normal. We also usually record the HDL and LDL as these give a bit more information. In someone with minimal or no risk factors an LDL up to 120 may be ok, if risk factors present we prefer 80ish. Hdl of 35 is a bit low. ...Read more
