Is it okay to use leftover doxycycline (previously used to treat cystic acne a few months ago) to treat my UTI?

Is it okay to use leftover doxycycline (previously used to treat cystic acne a few months ago) to treat my UTI?

Not OK: First, your UTI should be professionally confirmed, ideally in person or at least speaking with your doctor if your symptoms are typical and you did a home self test to confirm positive WBC and nitrite in your urine. Second, doxycycline is not a recommended drug for UTI. And since you took the drug fairly recently, there is a good chance the bacteria causing your UTI is resistant to it. ...Read more

Pain from UTI. Started Doxycycline today. How long until I feel better?

Pain from UTI. Started Doxycycline today. How long until I feel better?

1-2 days, but...: Did a doctor prescribe doxycycline, or are you treating yourself, perhaps with antibiotic left over from another infection? Doxy is not used very often for UTI; it usually would work, but other drugs are more commonly used, such as levofloxacin (Levaquin), sulfa-trimethoprim (Bactrim), or nitrofurantoin (Macrodantin). With effective Rx, urinary pain should start to improve in 1-2 days. ...Read more

Does metronidazole work better than doxycycline at curing UTI?

Does metronidazole work better than doxycycline at curing UTI?

UTI Treatment: In my experience I usually take a sample of urine and do an analysis of the urine. If I suspect an infection, or in the patient has symptoms of an infection, I send the urine to the lab for a culture which will tell me if bacteria grow and what type of bacteria. Also, this will tell me what antibiotic is the best to treat the infection.Metronidazole is not usually used for UTI. ...Read more

Can a shot "doze" of antibiodics and 1 week of doxycycline eleminate ant UTI and STD I may have had?

Can a shot "doze" of antibiodics and 1 week of doxycycline eleminate ant UTI and STD I may have had?

Not sure: Use of antibiotics depend on the bacteria causing the infection. Urine should be sent to the lab for culture to finfd the organism and then sensitivity of the organism to the antibiotics is assessed. Based on the results, antibiotics should be prescribed. A broad spectrum antibiotic eg. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) may be tried by a physician, without c&s. Tx of std is similar & depends on the organism involved. ...Read more

Can cipro (ciprofloxacin) and doxycycline be taken together? Or cipro (ciprofloxacin) and nitrofurantoin together for a uti?

Here are some. ..: Although there has been no specific study to oppose their combined use, there is no practical reason and need for taking these 2 sets of both together. Doctor said I have male cystitis what is this called? She prescribed doxycycline this cured symptoms quickly. It's back again is this normal? No uti.

Possibilities: First, we need to know how many days of Doxycycline you completed. Second did you get tested? Or was this a presumptive dignsosis? If you finished complete course of treatment then the next consideration is that this might be a possible resistant infection. My recommendation is to get test again and confirm is the same problem affecting you. F/u with your doctor on this. ...Read more

Always feeling the need to urinate. Doxycycline helped, but after 6 weeks it came back. Clear UTI&STD tests. Emptying bladder fully+?
