Acne: there are many other options for acne treatment. Did you just start the doxycycline or was that one of your prior unsuccessful treatments? Treatable.: Hi, Oral antibiotics for acne are hit or miss. Please try to prevent any emotional trauma if these pills don't bring you all the way to total satisfaction. Spironolactone: For adult females, doxycycline is a poor choice because it is seldom effective. It may also have undesirable effects, as you have noticed. Do you have normal periods? Any birth control? These are important factors. Spironolone is not an antibiotic. It is very well tolerated, costs $16 for 3 months. At 100mg a day it usually clears acne in 3 months. Dose may vary.
