How long until side effects of cymbalta (duloxetine) taper off?

How long until side effects of cymbalta (duloxetine) taper off?

Varies: Nausea, dry mouth, somnolence, fatigue, constipation, decreased appetite, and excessive sweating are the most common side effects caused by cymbalta (duloxetine). Most of these side effects will taper off after three to seven days. I have found that somnolence and fatigue can persist indefinitely. In such situations the patient doses in the evening so that peak levels occur during the night. ...Read more

I am quitting Cymbalta (duloxetine) after 8 weeks on 60mg. I cant afford it and i feel like a zombie. How long before im back to normal? I will not be tapering.

Treatment works: Most side effects will be gone in a few weeks. There are less expensive antidepressants which should be able to be adjusted so there are not bothersome side effects. I hope you won't give up on treatment because of one bad experience with medication. Both medication, therapy or both can be effective treatment. Treatment does work ...Read more

I just started Cymbalta (duloxetine) today at 30mg. Should I taper onto in slowly, like every other day at first? I read that tapering off of it is important so I was wondering if slowly starting it is equally important.

Take as directed: You should take your Cymbalta (duloxetine) as your physician directed you to take it please. Taking 30 mg per day is considered a starting dose, which is usually increased to 20mg twice daily, and then to 60 mg once a day or in 30mg divided doses. Good luck. ...Read more

Would a taper from 60 mg of cymbalta (duloxetine) to Zoloft be difficult?

Would a taper from 60 mg of cymbalta (duloxetine) to Zoloft be difficult?

Possibly: It could be difficult because stopping Cymbalta (duloxetine) can lead to the withdrawal syndrome that some patients experience. It is accompanied by severe migraine headaches and electric current sensations over the the top of the head and the neck and just because sertraline is being started does not necessarily prevent it. Talk to your doctor for more details regarding the transition to zoloft! ...Read more

What side effects can I expect when discontinuing cymbalta (duloxetine)? Took 60mg for 3 months. Taper - 30mg for 2 weeks. Today 1st day without it.

Probably none: You probably won't experience side effects from discontinuing cymbalt the way you did. However, if you we're taking it to treat major depression, there is a chance that you may begin to experience some of the original symptoms again if you have stopped the drug to early. So, if you begin to experience sleep or appetite changes, or decreased pleasure in activity talk to your doctor. ...Read more

Talk to your doctor: I would talk to either your prescribing physician or another physician with experience with both your mental health conditions as well as the gastrointestinal symptoms you contend with at the present time. There is mention of a hiatal hernia and endoscopy for an ulcer so it is important to not make huge changes in your regimen too fast for your body to catch up with! stay safe! ...Read more

My 16 yr old daughter is on 60 mg cymbalta (duloxetine) and we want to get her off it. What is the ideal tapering schedule? thanks,

Cymbalta (duloxetine): The ideal tapering schedule is one that is discussed with the prescribing doctor. Your daughter must have had a reason to be on Cymbalta (duloxetine) in the first place and the timing and/or the need for another medication should be discussed with a professional. This is a serious matter, please discuss it with her doctor. ...Read more

Switching from Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) to Cymbalta. My Dr said to just take Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) today and Cymbalta tomorrow? Don't I need to cross-taper or anything and if so how

Switching meds: Deciding to cross-taper antidepressant meds depends on doses, length of time taken, side effects and how fast doctor wants to change from one to another med. I'm tapering off Zoloft and switching to cymbalta (duloxetine), (duloxetine) will i lose weight with cymbalta (duloxetine).. With out the zoloft? (at the moment I am taking both)

Loss of appetite: Both medications have as a side effect- loss of appetite. However, with Cymbalta (duloxetine) is an individual response, you can gain or loose weight. At the same time Cymbalta (duloxetine) is a good antidepressant (snri) and chronic pain relief medication. ...Read more

May take longer. : Zoloft and Cymbalta (duloxetine) are actually very different from each other. Cymbalta (duloxetine) is very potent and works on two different receptors (serotonin ; norepinephrine ) and many people take longer to get off of it. Zoloft works mostly on one (receptor) and 50 mg is a low dose. Talk to your doctor about this. ...Read more

I start Zoloft 3 day ago 25mg while i'm tapering cymbalta (duloxetine) i feel anxious stress and tingling in my feet is that well go away and when?

Cymbalta (duloxetine) dose?: You don't mention your Cymbalta (duloxetine) dose and how you were told to taper it. As Cymbalta (duloxetine) can help with neuropathy i wonder if lowering that is causing the tingling in your feet. Cymbalta (duloxetine) can help with things like pain and neuropathy that zoloft may not. You may be lowering the Cymbalta (duloxetine) too fast or not increasing the zoloft fast enough. Talk to your md about this asap. ...Read more

Is there any harm in tapering psych meds without dr supervision? I started meds bc of insomnia, now sleeping about 16 hours a day. Reducing trazadone, klonopin, and cymbalta (duloxetine) .

Is there any harm in tapering psych meds without dr supervision? I started meds bc of insomnia, now sleeping about 16 hours a day. Reducing trazadone, klonopin, and cymbalta (duloxetine) .

OMG yes!: Please get supervision! Stopping Klonopin (benzo) too fast can cause anxiety & seizures. Rapid withdrawl from your Cymbalta (duloxetine) can precipitate close to debilitating "SSRI discontinuation syndrome" (weird paresthesias, headaches, GI distress, lightheadedness & balance problems). SARI w/d from trazodone will be similar plus add bad insomnia & risk of depersonalization, anger, agitation & suicidality. ...Read more
