No: Defining all the components of the blood system circulating in the host is incapable of defining malignant disease other than for the tumors of the WBC system. The solid tumor malignancies do shed markers into the serum but are not part of the CBC and at present are inaccurate.
No: A normal CBC and ESR do not tell you that you don't have cancer. Cancer can present in many ways. The blood tests that you mention are, in themselves, not reliable screening tests for cancer. If you have a concern that you might have cancer, it is important to see your healthcare provider to discuss it.
Not always, ...: ..My friend. Depends a lot on the kind and the stage. You are very young and, with exceptions, cancer is not common at your age. Why are you so concerned? Talk to your doc about any abnormal symptom you may be experiencing.
Cbc: Yes, there are some abnormal features that you can see in CBC (and peripheral blood smears) that would increase your suspicion towards certain blood cancer-for instance- circulating blast cells (immature white blood cells) in acute leukemia, and other features that you can see in chronic leukemia- i.e. Cml, cll. Differential shows high Segs: 62 Lymph low at 19 Basophils low at 0 Atyp Lymph 3% PLT low at 130 Is this indicative of a cancer? Otherwise normal CBC.
Atypical cells: Not impressed but the atypical lymphs are reason enough to to want to repeat the entire test in a month or two.
CBC and cancer: Very few cancers show up in a CBC. A few such as leukemia commonly are seen in a CBC. A metastatic lesion to a neck lymph node would normally not be detected with this blood test. An FNA (fine needle aspiration) can be performed where a tiny needle is used to extract cells for a pathologists review. Speak with your doctor.
Could you tell me if someone has thyroid cancer wouldn't the CBC blood test show that something was abnormal?
Cancer: Likely not. The cancer if it spread would likely just affect local structures. Ultrasound is the best method to detect it. Certain lab tests screen for certain types of thyroid cancer.

Excellent and important book!See 1 more doctor answer
No: This is simply not a screen for cancer. I'm sorry anyone may have led you to believe otherwise.
Yes!: A CBC is not a test for cancer. It is a test to count the different cells that make up your blood. Blood cancers like leukemia can sometimes be diagnosed with a cbc. But if a doctor suspects a different type of cancer, he or she will usually order an imaging study, like a ct scan or an ultrasound.See 2 more doctor answers
