Will Benadryl Help A Rash
Does Benadryl (diphenhydramine) help contact dermatitis rash go away or does be Benadryl (diphenhydramine) only help with itching not the swelling?
Contact dermatitis: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and other antihistamines treat reactions that are cause by histamine release, like hives (urticaria). Contact dermatitis is inflammation driven by cells of the immune system called lymphocytes. Taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for contact dermatitis will make you sleepy but doesn't reduce itch or inflammation. Contact dermatitis responds to topical and if severe enough, oral steroids.
Benadryl (diphenhydramine): It helps rashes that are caused by allergy or it also helps with itching. Medicines are often used for problems beyond what the company advertises or what the fda has approved them for. Many times experiences of patients and doctors will lead to new uses of medicines.See 1 more doctor answer
Everytime I go to the country, I get rashes and a terrible itch that keeps me awake during the night. Can Benadryl (diphenhydramine) help?
Any good over-the-counter medicine for red rashes on the body due to food, besides Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or claritin?
Skin Issues: Why would you think that your rashes are allergic in nature and you need an anti-histamine? Rashes can represent significant illness. I would need more information about the rash you are concerned about, but the best option is to be seen by your physician and to find out what your rash represents.
Itchy all over! No rashes or bites, no new soaps or products. Skin looks normal, no flaking or dryness. Not helped by benadryl (diphenhydramine). What can I do?
Dry skin?: Dry skin is the likely cause. Avoid scented or anti-bacterial soap or gel, apply a good moisturizer.
Time to time I get itchy rashes around my joints. I can go a year without it happening. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) helps it to go away. Any ideas what could cause this?

My 4 month had red rashes only on his face. Forehead, cheeks, and under his eyes. Can I use benadryl (diphenhydramine) cream?
Not advised: This will not help with most pediatric rashes, including hives. Although this could be a benign viral eruption, best to notify the pediatrician for advice.

I have got rashes on stomach, neck and hands. Took Allegra for two days but not helped. Took Benadryl (diphenhydramine) today morning and so far same situation.
See doctor: Many things can cause a skin rash but the more common ones are viral infection and drug reaction. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) only benefits hives caused by histamine but not other rashes. If you have no other symptoms, you may wait a week and see if it disappears. If the problem persists beyond that or you start to develop other symptoms, see your doctor.
I have a 13 wk old baby & she has some rashes on her legs & she is starting to scratch herself. Is it okay to put on some Benadryl (diphenhydramine) anti-itch cream?
Yes, but why rash?: Although not indicated in this age group, I and many pediatrician use Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for younger patients. However, Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is good for allergic causes of rash, but an 8 month old has many, many reasons for rashes, most commonly due to a virus, for which Benadryl (diphenhydramine) would not help. Because a babies immune system is different than an adults, allergic rashes are less common.
