Will An Eeg Be Able To Tell If Ive Ever Had A Stroke
Depends: A large stroke that involves the outer layer of the brain (cortex) can cause enough depression of the electrical activity that this will be detectable on an eeg. Due to the somewhat limited space resolution (think that there are only about 10 electrodes per head side or so) a very small amount of no functioning brain tissue (stroke) is difficult to detect. An eeg is not the test of choice for this. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
In uteto stroke, abnormal EEG,no seizures. Drs say abnormality on EEG can be from stroke site. Can anyone elaborate? Is it likely to not hv seizure?
EEG Findings: I would need more information to provide a better answer, but most likely the EEG showed some focal slowing without any seizure like discharges that would indicate a structural lesion. In this case, most likely a stroke. The likelihood of having a seizure has many other factors that need to be considered. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Sleep deprivation: If i understand your question correctly the best way to enhance the yield on an eeg is to perform it sleep deprived- meaning you try to deprive yourself of sleep the evening before the test and then take the test first thing in the morning. Another approach is to do an ambulatory eeg which you wear for 48-72 hours continuously and you sleep in your own bed. I hope this helps. Take care. ...Read more
EEG: To begin, the technician will paste wires with metal cups, to your skull, using an electrolyte paste. The wires serve as antennas, picking up the electrical activity of your brain cells. You will then be asked to lie down on a table. Once the machine is on, it does all the work. You may have light flashed at your eyes and you may be asked to try and go to sleep. You will not feel anything. ...Read more

My daughters EEG showed right hemisphere lesion and diffuse encephalopathy . What can you tell me about this?
Abnormal EEG.: The eeg records electrical activity in the brain. The right hemispheric lesion could be congenital problem, tumor, abnormal blood vessels, infection, traumatic injury, stroke, etc. The diffuse encephalopathy indicates abnormal electrical activity throughout whole brain. I would recommend discussing the eeg with your neurologist. Good luck! ...Read more
