For alcohol it is: estimated to be 10-15 years, but I cannot find good statistics on cocaine. However, I suspect that for chronic long-term users of cocaine, it shaves even more time off ones life, because it is highly associated with heart attack, heart arrhythmias with sudden death, stroke and other debilitating side effects. I would guess that if alcohol is 10-15 years, Cocaine probably 15-20. ...Read more

Is alcohol and a cocaine stimulant a understandable excuse of a one night stand cheating incident? Or is it because the person actually wanted to.
Al Anon: That question is probably the very definition of why someone should attend the twelve step program for friends and families of addicts known as al-anon. The question this doctor is prompted to ask is why would you be in a relationship with someone who is an addict who would put his and your health at risk even if he was impaired on alcohol and cocaine? I recommend al-anon. ...Read more

Probably trauma: related. While under the influence of alcohol and/or cocaine, a person could easily sustain an injury without being aware of the injury at the time. There is an old joke, that you can always tell if you had a good time the previous night if your fingers are sore in the morning (this is from people stepping on your fingers while you were passed out on the floor). Be careful! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Too subjective to do: People's reports of 'withdrawal' vs. Objective measurements (vital signs) - what a mess. Heroin withdrawal is very painful/achy and people hate it- but it doesn't 'kill'. Yet a sudden withdrawal from alcohol could cause memory loss and seizures - far worse in my opinion. Depending on what you call extreme, i would say alcohol ! ...Read more
Can long term cocaine, heroin, and alcohol use cause specific heart damage such as atherosclerosis?
Alcohol is toxic and: potentially damages everything it touches, including hearts, but also livers, kidneys, bladders, etc. Cocaine amps up everything (its a speed), plus is also toxic, so yes, it can damage tissue, too.
