A fracture is a broken bone. As there is cartilage at the end of many bones at the joint, a fracture may also include a break in the cartilage. Fractures and broken bones are the same thing. It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more

I just slammed my finger in my garage like shed door, and it is starting to bruise and swell. Is it a hairline fracture?
Fracture or not?: After an accident like this, if you have enough pain that you think you may have fractured your finger, it is best to visit a physician so that he or she can make sure that you have intact neurovascular status. Your doctor can splint your finger and order x-rays if appropriate. The diagnosis of a fracture is suspected with point tenderness and pain, but is confirmed with radiographs.

I got 5thmetacarpal base hairline fracture, im using splint, my two fingers are tapped is it enough for in this frcture. Suggest me?
Cast or splint: "dealers choice" a splint lets you take it off and wash but complicance is often an issue even with the best intentions and it may take longer to heal. While annoying at times a cast may work faster initially. For some but nondisplaced fractures don't mandate casting always ten weeks down the line no difference, just your experience in getting there.See 1 more doctor answer

Hi I think I have a hairline fracture. My leg is bruising badly, it also feels tingly and numb, and I can barely walk on it. Any help?
No Wt on it-Xray: Swelling and bruising causes the nerves to be compressed, this produces numbness along with the all the other processes of inflammation. This should get an x-ray. The only way for this to be treated properly is to find out the extent of injury. It is always good to start with rice-rest-ice, compression, and elevation.See 1 more doctor answer

Hello I took my full leg cast of 5 days ago (due to a hairline fracture in my tibia) I have been walking with a limp and saw my ankle got swollen?
PT may be in order: Physical therapy can address the gait issue with limping as this is likely related to muscle weakness. In addtion they can do soft tissue massage to alleviate the ankle swelling. This can occur when muscles are weak and do not provide enough pumping action to return blood to the heart.Check in w/your Orthopedist or Sports MD to get a prescription &/or agreement on next steps to get your gait normal
