No..but: It sound as if you are describing musle spam. This may be resulting from a lower back muscle strain. I would recommend that you perform stretching exercise along with strengthening exercises. Would recommend that you participate in a yoga class or pilates. Squats will help: to burn calories because you incorporate a lot of large muscles when performing a squat! If you incorporate this exercise without increasing your caloric intake then you should notice lower body fat and more toned legs, and your thighs should not get wider/bigger unless you are squatting with real heavy weights.
