My heart rate often slows to low 50s before sleep when very tired and have exercised a fair amount that day. Am not physically fit. Is this normal?

Could be: If you are young and in good shape, a pulse in
the fiftys especially at rest would not be alarming
the question would be if you have any other
symptoms related to your heart
do you have any palpitations, shortness of breath or unusual fatigue with exercise?
Then you should be evaluated by a cardiologist. ...Read more

I'm not an athlete or considered 'fit' but my heart rate whilst sleeping goes as low as 43bpm is this normal?

Be seen: It could be normal, but it would be wise to be checked and probably have an EKG. There are people who just have a slow heart rate, known as bradycardia, but there are also people who have a heart block that may need treatment. An EKG can distinguish between the two. ...Read more

Feeling a strong beat out of my chest (to the right of my heart) every few beats. Had tests — heart is normal, but heart rate is fast.

Heart rate: if you had tests the "strong" beat should have been identified. I am not sure what you mean by a strong beat. Is your heart rate regular or is the strong beat an early or skipped beat? The fast heart rate, if always present, is another issue. All these questions can be answered fully by a cardiologist if you have not seen one. Though you have had "tests", you're testing may have been incomplete. ...Read more

I have pots. Todaywhen I got up heart rate was fast and didn't slow down all the way when I laid down. Then had to go potty. Normal 20min later. Worry?

POTS: The Tachycardia on standing is obviously expected given your diagnosis. I don't know how long it normally takes for your hear rate to normalize after standing but if this was longer than usual, it may be due to anxiety as well. Bowel movement stimulates the vagal response which normally lowers heart rate. If the prolonged tachycardia upon standing continues or worsens, see your cardiologist. ...Read more

I constantly feel my heart pounding way faster than normal. And at other times, my heart rate slows extremely.

See cardiologist: Hi. What you describe sounds like tachy-brady syndrome. You should ask your PCP for a referral to a cardiologist to have it evaluated. It is important to know if your fast heart rate is regular or irregular. You may need treatment. They'll check your thyroid function too. Good luck! ...Read more

My super fast heart rate in the mornings is interrupting my sleep. Is this normal?

See cardiologist: Depending on your stress level, such as awakening during a disturbing dream, your heart rate may rise well into the 100's bpm; however, "arrhythmias", such as supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) can also occur and awaken you from sleep. SVT is an abnormally fast heart rhythm, due to a short circuit in your heart. See your doctor, cardiologist, or heart rhythm specialist for an evaluation. ...Read more

My arrythmia nurse says that I've got a normal heart rythem but have an inappropriate fast heart rate I'm a mystery he hasent seen this before 30 f?

Prob. normal, but...: Depends on your heart rate over a 24hr period. Maybe it is only high when you are in the medical office,. A 24hr holter monitor can be quite helpful to assess this. Other causes can be dehydrated status, high thyroid, or anemia. Sometimes people have a condition when they stand up that their heart rate markedly increases (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome- pots). ...Read more

High (approx. 80 BPM) resting heart rate. Previously sedentary. My heart pounds hard and fast during T25 DVD workout — is actually feeling it normal?

Heart rate and exerc: Heart rate of 80 is still well within the normal range. If you have started an exercise program after being relatively sedentary — its not unusual that you might see an increase in pulse. As your body adjusts to the new exercise program and your cardiovascular health improves the pulse will lower. The pounding is simply your body letting you know it's out of shape. Dr said holter detected a fast heart rate but it was normal rhythm, nothing to worry about right now. Anxiety? Always worried about heart stopping

Anxiety: Anxiety is the likely cause. So is exercise. When you wear a Holter, you're doing normal activities in the course of the day and the heart responds to increased metabolic demand by quickening its rate. Knowing that you stayed in normal (albeit faster) rhythm is worth its weight in gold, though. ...Read more
