Was rather obsessively checking my breasts & armpits for lumps - now I can feel what I think is a small lymph node. Could I have caused it to enlarge?

Unlikely: Do not check it more often than once in two weeks. If it doubles in size or other lymph nodes get larger, see doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD. Practice safe sex. ...Read more

Can touching and poking a lymph node in armpit cause it to swell and become painful?

Yes indeed: If you poke often enough and firmly enough, the area will definitely become tender and probably swollen. If you can't feel an obvious large lump by very light pressure, then nothing is wrong -- don't keep trying. Anyway, there are very few illnesses that cause lymph node enlargement as the only symptom. If you otherwise feel well, there's no point in looking for lymph nodes. ...Read more
