Would a full blood count test show electrolyte imbalances? Or should I ask for a specific test?

No, you need bmp/cmp: A complete blood count will show indices related to your white and red blood counts, as well as your platelets. It will not show any information related to the electrolytes; these are reflected in your basic or complete metabolic panel. ...Read more

Does your fasting blood glucose have to be in a specific range for a doctor to order a gtt ?When will a doctor order one?

Various doctors: Order gtt's for various indications. Check w/your doctor about their views and intentions. Should i contact a different doctor for adrenal mass went to a urologist after a CT scan for kidney stones showed an adrenal mass. Urologist sent me for a MRI and had me do a 24 hour urine test to see why i had kidney stones. I am more worried about the

The most common: Adrenal mass seen in about 15% of patients is an adrenal adenoma which is a benign tumor. It is easy to characterize on MRI because we can show there is fat in the tumor. This usually (94% accurate) means that the adrenal tumor is benign. But we make sure by following the tumor with additional MRI studies, which do not use harmful radiation. Ultrasound is not as accurate for followup. ...Read more

How fresh does a sputum test be before sending to lab for testing?

Depends: For most tests if the specimen reaches the lab within four hours of collection, it would be okay. Some organisms may last longer. Can i get an STD test while on my period? Is it normal for a doctor to refuse blood and urine testing to a patient, and only recommend a physical exam

Some are done on blood drawn from your arm and others on urine or cervical swabs but bleeding does not prevent any of the testing. The only way to know why a physician would want to just do an exam and no blood or urine tests would be to ask that physician. Sorry I can't tell u what the other doctor was thinking. It may have been done to save money ...Read more

What would be the reason i would need a blood pregnancy test over a urine pregnancy test?

What would be the reason i would need a blood pregnancy test over a urine pregnancy test?

More accurate: Both tests search for HCG or human chorionic gonadotropin, the hormone produced by the fetus. A blood pregnancy test will tell you the exact level of the hormone and can be detected at much lower levels, therefore giving an earlier result. A urine pregnancy test is only positive or negative the quantity of HCG in the blood pregnancy test can also help determine how far along the fetus is. ...Read more

24 hour urine catecholamine for a pheo- if a person does not have an episode during the 24 hours would it still show elevated levels. If so how?

24 hour urine catecholamine for a pheo- if a person does not have an episode during the 24 hours would it still show elevated levels. If so how?

Usually, yes: A pheo usually secretes catecholamines continuously, so it is not usually necessary to time the collection. These catecholamines yield a lot of breakdown products (eg. metanephrines). However, in some circumstances, if there is a very high suspicion for pheo and the initial tests are negative, and the attacks are sporadic, a urine collection timed with the episode is reasonable. ...Read more
