Why Wont My Fever Go Away
19, been sick for 3 days, low grade fever every day, stuffy nose, almost uncontrollable cough, taking Motrin, why won't my fever go away tho?
Doctor can evaluate: A primary care doctor can check to see if there is a bad cold (viral infection), a strep throat (bacterial, needs antibiotics), a sinus infection, allergies in the nose and sinuses, infection or wheezing in the lungs (might need asthma treatment or antibiotics), etc... Usually, fever more than 3 days can mean influenza, or can be another bacterial or viral infection. ...Read more
Fever & headache: As long as the fever is not high (persistently > 102), and if it has only been 2 days, I would just take Ibuprofen (otc), 3 tabs 3 times a day as this is probably a viral process that will go away by itself. I would wait up to a week for low-grade fever and mild to moderate headache to go away on its own. If the fever is high, or if the headache is unusually severe, you should see a doctor. ...Read more
Diagnosed with Influenza B Thursday. Had a fever (99-102) since Tuesday. Fever won't go away. Should I be worried?
No: The febrile phase of influenza B can last 7 days (sucks big time, doesn't it). Make sure to keep yourself well hydrated. If temp is going over 104 or you develop worsening cough and/or shortness of breath, seek medical care again as you can develop a secondary pneumonia. In the future, to avoid this, get flu vaccine EVERY YEAR! Hope you feel better soon. ...Read more

Probably: Elevated temperature/low grade fever is a very common symptom while a child is teething. A simple pain reliever/fever reducer like advil or tylenol (acetaminophen) is your first line of treatment. However, if the temperature rises much above 100 or 101 degrees f return to your physician. ...Read more
I've been sick for three days my partner told me he had gonorrhea and I took pills my head and fever won't go away I am cold and hot at the same time?
Shaking chills: You sound quite ill and it may or may not be from gonorrhea, but I would not take the chance. Gonorrhea is quite easily transmitted and you may be experiencing "systemic infection" (infection spreads via blood) and could potentially be fatal. Folks with 1 std often carry others such as hiv/herpes as well. Acute HIV can cause your symptoms too. So, please check in with your doc asap. Good luck. ...Read more

My child has a fever that won't go away, but the doctor says its just a virus. Do I need to worry its something else?
I've had a deep cough since march. Why won't it go away? Zpack & antibiotic tried. My fever went away already however this cough has not.
Not unusual: The fever and infection appear to clear up, but the cough sounds like it is hanging around, which is very common after both viral and bacterial infections that involve the airways and lungs. I tell people to think of what they've been through as if you burned yourself. The skin heals, infection clears or is avoided, but the area of skin is still sensitive for weeks. Same happens in lungs/airways. ...Read more

Emergency Room.: When children can't stop throwing up, they can get dehydrated, and get really sick, really fast. Although Acetaminophen is generally good for fever, and nausea medication is for nausea, not being able to keep it down, requires help and probably IV hydration. Also, although stomach ache might be insignificant, there can also be a serious reason for it. Needs check up by PCP or ER. ...Read more

Mix of problems: You have a mix of different problems here -- some which are chronic, and others which are more acute. Both need attention. Your low grade fever may well relate to your tooth abscess -- is a dentist treating you? Antibiotics alone without dental treatment will likely not eliminate the infection or the fever. The other issues can be addressed via your primary care physician and psychiatrist. ...Read more

Cough: Often people will get a post-infectious cough after having a common cold. This can be a result of inflammation in the airways. It may last several weeks. If you are feeling sick or having a fever then you should get seen by a doctor. A trial of OTC cough medication might help but there are prescriptions that might help, as well. ...Read more

Nothing/tylenol: A fever of 100.5f is not very high in a 9-month-old. If he/she doesn't seem sick you don't need to give any treatment. The fever itself does no harm to the baby. If the temp. Was higher and the baby was acting sick you could give tylenol (acetaminophen) 10-15 mg per kg. By mouth. If the baby remained ill you should call your doctor or advice nurse. ...Read more
