Why Should You Take Prednisone In The Morning
If I take 35mg of prednisone in the morning instead of 20mg in the morning and 15 at night, will it lessen the swelling I'm beginning to have?
Prednisone is a synthetic cortisone. The body makes cortisone, a natural hormone made in adrenal glands. The body converts it to Hydrocortisone to become active. 25 mg of cortisone has about same effect as 5 mgm prednisone. The average person would produce 3-6 mg of pred daily. So why use a substitute? The synthetic has more anti-inflammatory effect; but has less effect ...Read more

Cheratussin is taken throughout day as needed. Z-pak is once daily. Prednisone dosing depends but can be once in AM. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Are there any longer-lasting glucocorticosteroids? Prednisone seems to work very short-term; inflammation returned already (next morning).
Yes, but more toxic: For some people, Methylprednisolone lasts and works a little better and than prednisone. Dexamethasone is a common longer activing steroid but is not used for daily treatment, because longer acting steroids have more steroid side effects.
