I know that tablet based supplements don't always dissolve completely for body to absorb, but what about capsules? Are all capsules USP by default?
Depends: Not all capsules are usp. If you go to the health food store you can buy/find empty capsules that you could stuff with something like an herb or a powder.. This capsule you made will not undergo vigorous scientific testing or pass all the requirements. You will not be able to figure out exactly how your body will absorb it. So the message is read the fine print on whatever tablet/capsule you take. ...Read more

Do homeopathic remedies benefit/ cure or is this just placebo effects- i ve heard opposite views from people who use it ?
Help is from placebo: Truly homeopathic "medications" are made by repeated dilutions, so that the ingredient is not really there anymore (just the "essence" of it remains). That means there is no active ingredient left to cause any benefit. However, that also implies that the homeopathic "medicine" should be pretty harmless, unless some other non-homeopathic ingredient (such as some antihistamine chemical) was added. ...Read more

Is it safe to use GNC natural brand super digestive enzymes (http://www.Gnc.Com/product/index.Jsp?Productid=2291) during pregnancy? It has papain, which I have heard mixed things about. I have ibs.
I would avoid.: The GNC ones you asked about do not appear to be enteric coated which means these enzymes will be broken down by stomach acid before reaching the gut, rendering them mostly useless. There is some evidence that some of these enzymes might affect folate (folic acid) absorption which is critical for early neural development, so i would recommend saving your money! perhaps invest in some organic veggies instead! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I was wondering does the ginseng that most popular energy drinks contain have any adverse health effects?
Not really: ginseng in the amounts present in the energy drinks does not seem to cause problems, but a lot of the other stuff, like high dose caffeine does. The vitamins are worthless in most people and are just peed out mostly, and they DONT improve anybody's energy who isn't deficient in that vitamin. A lot of the other stuff, like taurine, is of uncertain safety. ...Read more

Evidence based: For most doctors to believe a treatment is helpful & not harmful to patients they need to see double blind (both doctor & patient do not know treatment patient is receiving to reduce bias), placebo controlled (remove placebo effect), randomized (all comers assigned treatment by chance) clinical trials with defined proven endpoints for outcomes. Unfortunately most natural remedies dont have these. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
