Cyst (Definition)

A cyst is a structure or mass that consists of a cellular lined sac. It is typically filled with fluid but may be filled with solid material. It can be congenital, traumatic, or acquired. They may develop nearly anywhere in the body and usually require complete excision for eradication or they are likely to recur. Fluid filled sacs that are not cellular lined ...Read more

I have had an ovarian cyst that is 4cm for the last two years that hasn't gone away and am wondering if this could hurt my fertility?

Cysts & Fertility: Ovarian cysts of 4 cms rarely affect ovulation and subsequent fertility. If your periods are irregular then only then would consideration be given to ovarian cyst removal or evaluation with Laparosopy. Many cysts can be "suppressed" with the oral contraceptives of that size. ...Read more

My tvs scan shows both ovarian cyst also size of ovary larger.Have no kids.4 yrz of marriage. Can i tak danazole or laproscope best for fertility n cys?

Neither: Your doctor may chose to treat or just watch the cyst(s) depending on their size and appearance. Danazol is used to treat the pain of endometriosis, not infertility. It is neither safe nor effective for fertility treatment. Laparoscopy is surgery and should not be the first treatment for infertility, unless the doctor wishes to treat the cyst. ...Read more

I frequency have many ovarian cysts and am obese. A nurse said I have pcos, but my cycles are regular and fertility is fine. Can it still be pcos?

Depends : There is a difference between pcos and pco. You probably have pco but not the syndrome. To have the syndrome you need to have either irregular periods (less frequent) and/or signs and symptoms of high male hormone levels in addition to pco. ...Read more

Doctor diagnosed left ovarian cyst 3.6cm.Married since for years having no baby used all fertility treatment. What ur opinion about me.I'28 n 54 husban?

Investiation: Some key pieces of information that would help answer your question would be... Have you and your husband been worked up for infertility? That is, he's has semen analysis, and you've had blood and imaging work up? Having a 3.6cm cyst on ovary likely isn't cause for infertility. If you've been diagnosed with endometriosis and cyst is endometrioma, then that could be cause. Need more information. ...Read more

I have pcod and left ovary removed due to ovarian cyst almost 2 years back, how to know when i ovulate or my fertility period to get pregnant?

Ovulation occurs consistently about 14 days before your next cycle.: If you know how many days there are from the first day of the bleeding to the next during your normal cycle just subtract 14 days. This allows you to predict when you should be ovulating. ...Read more

I have history of ovarian cyst, just had sergury for endometriosis, and had fibroids. Will i be able to have kids? Or will i need fertility treatment?

What did your MD say: After the surgery, your gyn should have discussed fertility issues. Chances of conception are highest in the first six months after endometriosis surgery. If you had fibroids removed, you may need to wait before trying to get pregnant. ...Read more

I have two ovarian cyst that have ruptured and caused stomach infections. Would it have an impact on my fertility and future pregnancy?

I have two ovarian cyst that have ruptured and caused stomach infections. Would it have an impact on my fertility and future pregnancy?

It might: Depends on cause, treatment (surgery?), etc. Maybe tests already were done or planned to evaluate for fallopian tube damage (laparoscopy, ultrasound, etc). Discuss with your gynecolgist and/or infertility specialist. Ask if "infected ovarian cyst" was a euphemism for pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or tubo-ovarian abscess, which may cause more tube damage than simple infected cysts. Good luck! ...Read more

How does having ovarian cysts mess with my fertility? I have had many ovarian cysts rupture.

How does having ovarian cysts mess with my fertility? I have had many ovarian cysts rupture.

Probably doesn't: Simple ovarian cysts (only fluid inside them) tend to come and go and probably don't affect your fertility. If the cyst reaches a large size (>5cm) then it can cause pain. Rarely a very large cyst (>8cm) can lead to ovarian torsion which is a medical emergency (you could end up losing that ovary). An endometrioma is a cyst filled with old blood. Endometriosis is associated with decreased fertility ...Read more

I have two ovarian cysts, one complex and one mural nodule. They are very painful. I've had one in the past. Does this affect fertility/having kids?

Gynecology consult: Knowing a woman's age is a prerequisite to evaluate ovarian masses. I have not heard of a "mural nodule" in the context of ultrasound of the ovary. Complex cysts at times are benign ovarian masses, for example, a hemorrhagic ovarian cyst, which is the result of ovulation, at times they can be precursors of malignancy. The findings described should be discussed with a gynecologist. ...Read more

I've been taking risperdal for 10 months, but I have developed an ovarian cyst. Should i ask for a different drug?

Discuss: Rather than ask for a different drug as the first step, i would discuss with your prescribing doc your concern about taking Risperdal given that you have an ovarian cyst. Your benefit from Risperdal will need to be weighed against the potential impact on your cyst. ...Read more

8 week followup u/s for simple left ovarian cyst which remains same. Right side (no cyst) now measures 19 cc up from 12cc last time. Concerning?

No: Simple ovarian cysts are usually benign (not cancer) in a woman in her early 30s. If they become large or painful, they can be removed with laparoscopic surgery but frequently go away on their own. ...Read more

Can complex fluid filled ovarian cysts become cancerous? Why might there be a bright ring around it on u/s then no ring on f/u u/s? Causing much pain.

Yes it can: Complex cysts can be cancerous depending on their size and rate of growth. A CA125 test can help decide its nature. Ultrasound is a good test to measure increase in size and also may show any solid components inside the cyst. You should get the ultrasound repeated in 3-4 months and have your gynecologist guide you further. You may need surgical removal if it is causing you much pain or increased s ...Read more

U/S says 5.6cm ovarian cyst resolved, but it still hurts all the time. What could be going on? I'm still having all the same symptoms.

Cystic fluid: If the ovarian cyst resolved by rupturing with fluid accumulation on the lining of the internal body cavity (peritoneum), then that's why you are still symptomatic. Eventually this will resolve if that is the case. ...Read more

2nd time in 3 months an U/S has shown bilateral ovarian cysts. But I thought only one ovary ovulates each month? R ovary hurts, cyst is 1cm.

Bilateral cysts: A one cm ovarian cyst is quite small and in the process of ovulation production both ovaries are stimulated and cysts sometimes forms. You are correct that ovaries generally alternate ovulation, but unless you have PCOS most cysts are benign and unilateral. ...Read more
