Exam would help: Hard to diagnose knee problems in this forum. Based on the "popping" there is a good chance this is mechanical (torn meniscus for example). In the absence of injury, then problems like infection, autoimmune disease, tumor would be considered. If this is recurring; let your doctor know. Sounds like: you may have a HAMSTRING tear....(Its a big tendon and partial tears are quite common!!) Continue RICE and ask your PCP for a referral to a Board Certified Orthopedist.
